As academics, we have some serious work to do. We've pretty soundly lost our credibility to the median voter. Even those of us who aspire to objectivity and neutrality are read as biased (and people assume the direction). And our explanations are too complicated.

New preprint is up at @CrimRxiv, and looking forward to hearing feedback for our team with @Clempoliceprof and Geoff Alpert. These pre-registered results follow two six-month RCTs in Aurora PD (Colorado) and Richland County Sheriff’s Office (South Carolina).
Can we improve #police behavior by giving officers feedback about their verbal interactions based on AI-generated audits of bodycam footage?
Yes, and there are agency dynamics and implementation contexts to consider.

A student from a different university emailed me because they saw the traffic stop racial disparity work our team has done recently. They wanted to know if there were any "shortcuts" to acquiring such data. In typing my response, I wanted to share my thoughts with y'all too. 🧵

Smart, careful analysis by @BrandondelPozo of how drug policy reform advocates undermined their own cause by not attending to the serious harms drug use does to communities, families, and quality of life.
In short, people who don't use drugs matter too.
