The first two days of the 2025 Creag Liath excavation have seen a fantastic volunteer effort to support the team from @ArchScot, who are spending the week extending last year's trenches and surveying other historic sites in the community forest.
This September we headed out once again to the West Coast of Scotland with volunteers from @StronafianF to dig the incredible site at Creag Liath, near Glendaruel. Read more here 👉 facebook.com/archaeology.sco…

Another fascinating piece of history in @NorthAyrshire, the Haylie Neolithic Tomb in Largs. Older than Stonehenge, the significance was recognised years ago but getting verification & clearing area to protect it has taken a while. Many thanks to all involved! 👏👏

ALT Screenshot of a small brown shield shaped object from sketchfab. This object is a cast of a medieval stone mould for a pilgrim’s medal, which was most likely used for making medals for pilgrims on their way to St. Andrews in Fife. It was found in St. Andrews Kirk in North Berwick, which would have been a stop for pilgrims continuing north. It is made of stained brown plaster and features a cross and a saint side by side.

Newbattle Abbey College at Dalkeith was a military base during #WW2. By October 1939 both the ATS and RAMC were using the college, grounds, and an extensive network of huts as a training base. Recruits spent 3-6 weeks onsite before being deployed to onward wartime roles.
As our excavation at Ochiltree reaches the business end it was an honour to welcome veterans from @ErskineCharity yesterday to focus on employability skills, health & wellbeing and to help continue our excavation alongside the local community. Huge thanks to Bobby, Jim & Alan 👏
We're making some great progress on our dig at Ochiltree with some fab volunteers and P6/7 pupils from Ochiltree Primary School. We've re-exposed the trenches from March and are now working on determining how, and if, the features are related @CoalfieldCLP @as_learn @EastAyrshire
The start of our second dig at Ochiltree in #EastAyrshire and we had a purrfect assistant for marking out. "Can you hold the tape down please?" 🐈⬛️ 🤭. We've resumed our exploration of a site in an area that's previously revealed prehistoric discoveries. Stay tuned! #Ochiltree24
