A fantastic, must-read piece from @gfiorelli1 going through recent debates about the value of AI search ... beyond referral traffic and conversions, it's about marketing ๐
"...we risk confusing the final economic purpose of marketing with the different mechanisms through which marketing creates value... A marketing activity can contribute to future commercial results without being the channel through which the final transaction occurs. This is neither a radical proposition nor an attempt to justify spending money on an emerging technology. It is one of the basic principles of marketing."
A few key topics addressed:
* If conversions are the only metric, should we cancel the podcasts too?
* Search has never been exclusively about capturing demand
* AI Search visibility is not the objective. Relevant brand associations are.
* What about the agentic future?
* What this changes in practical SEO strategy

General-purpose neuro-symbolic entity grounding engine: Resolve

Entity linking has two jobs: finding mentions and figuring out what they actually mean.
On the multilingual VoxEL benchmark, resolve() leads on disambiguation while Google still leads on mention detection.
Good AI infrastructure starts with honest benchmarks ๐๐

We benchmarked resolve() against Google, Dandelion, Entity-Fishing and Wikidata search on VoxEL, a public news benchmark in 5 languages.
Given the mentions: 884 of 1,005 right, the most of any system. Finding names on its own: Google still wins.

A jaguar swam through the Amazon rainforest.
A search-based agent filed it under automotive news.
It took the first search hit for "jaguar": Jaguar Cars.
Today resolve() enters public beta: an API that tells your agent which thing a name refers to, or says it doesn't know.

Amazon invested in Perplexity. Then blocked it.
Why? Amazon runs on human psychology โ upsells, impulse buys.
An AI agent buys one thing. And stops.
No impulse. No funnel. Threat to their entire model.
