Insulin helps turn blood sugar into energy. When insulin resistance sets in, cells don't respond effectively. Over time, this can increase the risk of type 2 diabetes. Wayne State researchers are exploring the cause to develop therapeutic strategies. go.wayne.edu/insulin-nih-tw
Another great Chemistry Graduate Research Symposium in the books! So many people to thank…our keynote speakers - Drs. Yilin Liu and Jeremy Kodanko, the organizers, judges, the WSU staff, our students, and a shoutout to our sponsor @Applied4Tech. #wsuchemistry #CGRS2026
Congrats to Nishani for Best Talk, Himanshu for Best Flash Talk, and Iswaryya and Amal for Best Posters!
Doug Genna, an expert in organic synthesis, gave today’s Inorganic Chemistry seminar on his metal-organic framework research. Thanks for visiting our campus! #wsuchemistry #MOFs @GennaLab
You’re the tops! Leila is the recipient of the Organic Chemistry Top Graduate Student Award. Congratulations! #wsuchemistry #ochem #chemistryindetroit
Today, we had a seminar from Carlos Renteria from @BiomedEngWayne on multiphoton and chemical imaging tools to measure functional dynamics in live cells. #wsuchemistry #physicalchemistry #biomedicalengineering
#WSUChemistry’s Nguyen lab attended the Midwest Carbohydrate & Glycobiology Symposium (#MCGS2026), hosted by @michiganstateu. Dr. Kartikey Singh and Livia Philip gave oral presentations, while Assia, Michael, Tharuka, Lakmini, and Abhijit presented posters.
WSU Chem’s Dajena Tomco was honored on Saturday by the Athletic Department as the Faculty Member of the Game. Professor Tomco was selected by her student athletes and had a good time at the game. What a fun honor! #WarriorPride #wsuchemistry #Homecoming2026
Thanks to everyone who came out to the Bettye Washington Greene Memorial Lecture that honors the trailblazing WSU alum and hear keynote speaker Dr. Kenneth R. Carter who gave a dynamic talk on his personal journey that led to a PhD in polymer chemistry. #wsuchemistry
“Multi-Field Relaxation Dynamics of Parahydrogen-Hyperpolarized Propane Gas MRI Contrast Agent” highlights the potential of HP propane as a highly accessible contrast agent for rapid regional ventilation mapping of the lungs. #wsuchemistry #MRI

This is a fascinating Nobel Prize, and congratulations to the winners. I would be remiss, however, not to acknowledge Donna Blackmond’s mechanistic brilliance and her substantial contributions to our understanding of this chemistry.
Kenso Soai – awarded the 2026 #NobelPrize in Chemistry – designed the first chemical reaction in which only one of the potential mirror images was formed. Other than life itself, no one had ever achieved this feat. The Soai reaction is one of the most spectacular chemical experiments ever conducted.
The 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded to Henri B. Kagan and Kenso Soai “for the discovery of non-linear effects and autocatalysis in asymmetric organic synthesis.” #NobelPrize #Chemistry
