ALT Square graphic that describes VietLead's COVID-19 Outreach Strategies to Build Broad & Deep. There were two objectives that the graphic describes with text and icons: 1) Cultivate Knowledge Broadly: Outreaching to spread accurate and in-language information through engaging experienced volunteers and canvassers, frequently updated phone/text scripts, and always considering language access; 2) Foster Relationships Deeply: Finding opportunities to build relationships with community members based in trust & transparency by equipping community leaders with COVID-19 info, having in-person outreach at community hubs, and having 1:1 conversations with community members to address vaccine hesitancy. Our outreach numbers: 1,210 Doors Knocked, 6,729 Phone Calls, and 27,602 Texts Sent. Outreaching broadly mitigated mass misinformation while fostering relationships deeply addresses our community's long-term health. Both were necessary to address causes & effects of vaccine hesitancy.

ALT Square graphic that describes VietLead's work to reach nail salon workers. Upon nail salons reopening in Summer 2020, COVID-19 infection rates drastically increased in our low-wage, nail salon worker community. We surveyed 57 nail salon workers + owners to best understand the pandemic's impact on this focus population. We found that 53% of respondents said they could not afford food, housing, or other necessities, and 50% said they had to supply their own PPE at work. We responded by providing immediate COVID-19 related support and wraparound services. 150+ workers trained about COVID-19 safety using OSHA materials; 700+ boxes of PPE distributed to nail salon workers, and 230+ Families provided with groceries, cleaning supplies, and support while quarantining.

ALT Square graphic that describes VietLead's work to vaccinate our community, since typical channels of COVID-19 vaccination were inaccessible to our community because of language barriers, technology barriers, inaccessible appointments, fears about immigration status, and vaccine hesitancy. We 1) combatted misinformation by mobilizing broad outreach, prioritizing follow-up conversations, and recruiting trusted health care professionals and community leaders 2) increased access by having phone-based scheduling for low-tech literate elders, hosting clinics at community locations, and having a volunteer network with 6+ languages 3) built partnerships with other community-based organizations to increase vaccine access for other BIPOC communities, and 4) provided wrap-around services to provide resource and information about labor rights, public benefits, COVID testing, and more at clinics. As a result, VietLead's clinics allowed 1,074 vaccines to be administered to community members.

ALT Square graphic describing what we learned through this work: Community-centered work requires trust & time. Future success necessitates building capacity in our community & financial investment in grassroots community work." Beneath this, there are three key takeaways named in white text in rounded rectangles, with bullet points to the right of them elaborating on each takeaway. 1) Trust Matters: Listen and respond directly to community members' named needs and find multiple touch points of contact to develop trusting relationships 2) Community-Centered Care: focus on accessibility, meet people where they are at (temples, churches, Asian grocery stores, etc.), and rally mutual aid networks 3) Build Capacity: loop in and learn from trusted community leaders for strategic outreach, engage community members for outreach, and increase collaboration for clinics.
