Every mother, like Farzana, deserves quality care from pregnancy to delivery and beyond.
Child marriage can take away choices that should belong to girls.
It can force them out of school, increase the risk of early pregnancy and limit their opportunities.
Every girl has the right to learn, make decisions and have her voice heard in her community.
#EndChildMarriage. Invest in girls’ rights. Now. #GirlGoals

ALT Each year, more than 12 million girls are married before the age of 18. That’s one girl every three seconds.

ALT Ken, 16, holds her baby at home in Ratanakiri, Cambodia, where nearly half of all girls are married before age 18. UNICEF and partners are helping young mothers like her get the care and protection they need. For many girls, child marriage means growing up too soon, facing early pregnancy and leaving school before they can choose what comes next.

But her story didn’t end there.
Baby Asante survived Ebola and her recovery has been marked by weekly visits to a UNICEF-supported hospital, thanks to her foster mother, Francine.
“Today, seeing her smile makes me feel good,” she says.

UNICEF stands in solidarity with the children, adolescents and families affected by the earthquake that struck Panama’s Pacific coast on October 9, 2026.
A powerful earthquake struck the southern Pacific coast of Panama at 12:56 p.m. local time today. It was felt across much of the country, including Panama City and neighboring Costa Rica.
National authorities are assessing the impact, and it is still too early to determine the extent of the damage and the consequences for children and families.
UNICEF’s primary concern is for children and families near the epicenter.
Earthquakes place children at risk of injury and family separation, and can leave them without shelter, safe drinking water, health care or access to education.
UNICEF stands ready to support the Government of Panama’s response if needed. We urge families living in Panama and neighboring countries to follow the instructions of local authorities.

Measles is spreading in Bangladesh - with over 190,000 suspected cases reported since March 2026.
When one-year-old Ayatullah suddenly started showing signs of illness, his father Abdul Razzak brought him to a hospital. That’s when he was diagnosed with measles.
“Let’s be ready to get the measles vaccine, because even a small moment of negligence or distraction could lead to serious suffering later,” says Abdul Razzak.
To protect children’s health and help curb the ongoing outbreak, UNICEF is procuring vaccines and supporting emergency catch-up programmes.
