Closing the (nonexistent) intoxication loophole in rape law will all but guarantee life-ruining allegations of rape against people who do no wrong.
Urgently must-read essay.

The “Cornell 7” story presents a case study in the law working as it should.
To weigh the underlying facts is to understand why there is no "loophole" in the law at all.

I wrote my first piece for Unherd, about the reasons "closing the voluntary intoxication loophole" is unwise and legally problematic. Give it a read!
A dangerous rewrite of rape law.
Proud to have @JeninYounesEsq in UnHerd arguing against the proposed "reform" of New York rape law prompted by the Cornell 7 case.

Closing the so-called intoxication loophole in New York r*pe law is a terrible idea that would put sexual partners in an impossible position --- and all but guarantee life-ruining allegations of rape against people who do no wrong.

"The obvious irony is that it probably won’t be, and will, like Macdonald’s own career, attract a small audience of reverent fans."

Norm Macdonald had an uncanny ability to shine a light on the human condition.

Inflation is here to say.
Over the past decade, voters across the developed world demanded an end to neoliberal globalization.

The flimsier a position is, the more an argument is "won" with sheer insults and abuse. @Nikos_Mohammadi for @unherd wrote a Jane Doe skeptical editorial for his campus paper and there has been a mass uprising.

I wrote about 'virtue hoarding' & vanguardism in the 21st Century, from protestors in NYC, accusing Mamdani of genocide, to pro-mask zealots at the Last Ditch bar.
Vanguardism used to mean leading the masses; now it often means looking down at them.

Nikos Mohammadi, our academic fellow at UnHerd, published an essay in a Columbia student paper gently questioning the Current Thing narrative on Cornell.
Now he's facing an old-school cancelation. Even the "Committee on Open Discourse" has condemned him. unherd.com/2026/10/do-my-cla…
Vanguardism has seemingly become an end in itself. If virtue can only be hoarded so long as it is a minority position, then once mainstream opinion shifts towards you, you have to move once more.
That is what is most striking about labelling Mamdani a Zionist, or declaring that Caroline Lucas should be expelled from the Green Party. It is precisely because power has made concessions, and the Left has made very real gains that the anger is directed at allies instead.
If you’ve ever wondered why some on the Left can’t “take the win”, the concept of virtue hoarding should help explain why.
