READ NOW! UNDP’s new report finds that many of the region's greatest security risks now emerge through climate shocks, cybercrime, economic insecurity, and distrust.
The report calls for a broader understanding of security that places people, communities and resilience at its centre.

Development is prevention.
Our new @UNDP report ‘Redefining Security’ shows how targeted development investments can act as ‘circuit breakers’, addressing insecurities early and preventing local shocks from escalating into wider crises.
Read here: go.undp.org/xWw
The fundamental problem with prevention is that when it works, it is often invisible. Political and budget cycles reward visible results, while the return on prevention is often a crisis that did not occur.
More on prevention, security and trust in this interview with @kanniwignaraja about our new report, #RedefiningSecurity via @Diplomat_APAC
go.undp.org/xh5
We should see today’s insecurity less as episodic and more as chronic pain.
Countries and communities face shock after shock, often w little time to prepare, and to breathe, pivot and recover from the last hit. And the pain accumulates.
Thanks to @Diplomat_APAC for a discussion on why we must shift from responding to individual crises to managing interconnected risks and invest in prevention at those points of convergence.
Prevention is not an easy fiscal nor political sell. For when it works, it was a crisis that didn’t happen!
So, this is a call for ensuring smart buy-in across state and non state stakeholders who are vested in this agenda, and must work together - whether security or development entities, GenZ or private sector, mayors or MPs.
Here's my take, w the release of @UNDP Report today:

A historic milestone for climate justice and solidarity with Nepal
At its first-ever extraordinary board meeting, the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (#FRLD) has taken a landmark decision to provisionally allocate USD $21.6 million to support Nepal’s recovery and reconstruction following the devastating Bhote Koshi–Trishuli flash floods of 26 August 2026.
This approval represents the very first time the Fund has moved to support a country facing a sudden-onset climate disaster since its operationalization at COP28. By piloting an agile response under the Barbados Implementation Modalities, the Board has set a powerful precedent for rapid, compassionate multilateral action.
Led by the Government of Nepal, with the Ministry of Forests and Environment and Ministry of Finance spearheading the effort, this decision will help mobilize vital resources for recovery, reconstruction and resilient livelihoods in communities affected across the Bhotekoshi–Trishuli basin.
For the communities rebuilding their lives along the Bhote Koshi corridor, this decision offers tangible hope and critical resources for resilient recovery. Beyond Nepal, it sends an unequivocal message to vulnerable nations worldwide: multilateral cooperation can and must deliver climate justice when disaster strikes.
UNDP Nepal remains steadfast in supporting national and local partners to turn this solidarity into inclusive, climate-resilient recovery on the ground.

New #HIV infections in the #Pacific rose 65% between 2010 and 2025.
But the region has the knowledge and tools to turn the tide.
In a joint op-ed, leaders from 5 UN agencies call for collective action, community leadership and better access to HIV services.

🚀 Calling young AI innovators across Asia and the Pacific!
We’re excited to launch the Youth AI4SDGs Impact Challenge, a regional initiative by UNDP and Tencent Charity Foundation that supports young innovators in harnessing the power of AI for sustainable development.
We are looking for youth-led organizations and solutions across Asia and the Pacific developing AI solutions for digital public services, climate adaptation and environmental resilience, disaster risk reduction and peacebuilding, and disability inclusion.
Selected participants will join a regional learning programme starting in 2027, with access to capacity-building, mentorship and ecosystem connections. Participants will also have the opportunity to apply for follow-on grants and free credits to leading AI tools to help further develop their solutions.
Apply by 31 December 2026: tinyurl.com/YouthAI4SDGs

At @undpasiapac we have been asking and analyzing responses to the question: what actually makes people feel safer?
Clearly protection from immediate security threats. But it is also about a decent job, institutions one can trust, basic services that work, reliable information. And to be better prepared and withstand that next shock.
Tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET we launch our new regional @UNDP report exploring security through that wider development lens. Looking to shared positive outcomes.
