Did you know "refugia" is the plural of the word "refugium", meaning an area where special environmental circumstances have enabled a species or a community of species to survive after extinction in surrounding areas.
The Daintree Rainforest is one such area. No wonder there are plants found here that are only found in the fossil record elsewhere in the world. That's what makes it such a special place and so important to protect. Find our more by rewatching our video with @rfr_au.

Sadly, between 1970 and 2018, according to a @world_wildlife and Zoology Society London study, wildlife populations have plunged by an average of 69%, meaning populations of species have fallen dramatically and extinction risk is growing.
Protecting wildlife, our planet, and people go hand-in-hand. That’s why we’re prioritizing nature-based solutions that are also addressing the biodiversity crisis, while uplifting communities.
