In the curious case of the 2026 Philadelphia Union, there are many reasons for how a horrendous run of seven points from 15 games was followed by a streak of historic excellence.
Among them are the emergence of thrilling teenager Cavan Sullivan, a pre-World Cup coffee shop chat between the team's captain and interim coach, an innovative formation for which there seems to be no answer and a towering young central defender.
Philly's turnaround is such that its current spell of 11 wins and two draws is the best 13-game stretch in MLS history. But they're not having all the fun. Meanwhile, St Louis City is unbeaten in 20 matches in all competitions, to tie another MLS record.
