📢📢📢My book, Deep Unlearning, is now available for preorders at simonandschuster.com/books/D… I don't know how people write so many books because this one took a lot out of me. It turns out, I had a lot to say 😂, with editors cutting out 50k of my words 🫣

William MacAskill, aka the guru of Sam "the Bernie Madoff of crypto" Bankman-Fried who got 25 years for stealing 8 billion, still gets invited to write @TheEconomist & @guardian ... Perfect illustration of media as hype/propaganda machine *excuse me* complete media failure.
Garrison „Longtermism=Socialism“ Lovely has been part of the 10 million PR Will MacAskill train for his climate denial book & the shamelessness of QT @timnitGebru to promote his own book should tell you he has not left the Effective Altruism cult or done any serious reflection.

If a firm's AI customer-service chatbot gives false information, traps customers in doom loops, or fails to actually help, that firm may be violating the law. A new brief from the Center for Law & the Economy's @stephtngu and @BorrowerJustice's Adam Teitelbaum explains the various laws that apply when businesses outsource customer service to AI chatbots. This is the first in a series explaining how existing laws apply to AI: law-and-economy.law.columbia… And a deeper dive published @HarvardJOLT: jolt.law.harvard.edu/digest/…

Not "almost Devine" they're telling us it IS Devine. Also I LOVE Ilana's question. WHY does it have to be in schools? It feels so nonconsensual.

It's yet again another example of AI companies pulling numbers out of thin air, without in anyway understanding how risk thresholds and assessments are achieved in safety-critical industries. This bill is nothing more than LARPing safety.

A tell tale sign that AI companies have no safety expertise is that they promote the idea of "general" safety. There's no such thing, safety is relative to the system, environment, and context and why a catastrophic accident in nuclear is defined differently from one in aviation.
Woah woah woah. The lead is buried in paragraph four.

The “public good” is something determined by the public itself, and the public has a say in its administration via democratic controls over a democratic state. This, instead, is your company stealing everyone’s work, dismantling the state, and then deciding who gets resources.
Between this and our prior commitments, roughly 20% of all Anthropic equity will be dedicated to the public good, and that commitment can grow as Anthropic grows. We plan to use these funds to ensure more people can share in the benefits of AI, and to increase our ability to provide funding to deal with its risks.

Lol, this what “independent media” in the US looks like folks, in case you’re wondering about the information ecosystem. It’s press releases packaged as news.
this post announced what could be the largest commitment of philanthropic capital ever made ($200 billion if Anthropic goes public at $1 trillion, which is probably conservative) the first reply I saw asked if Anthropic was going to use it for “gay race communism”

We warned about this exact scenario last year: That AI companies will situate themselves as the arbiters of life or death, taking over the arbitration of risk determinations and subverting democratic processes. All through the co-option of safety engineering terminology.

It’s extinction today & utopia tomorrow folks, just flip a coin. Utopia if you give them 💰 extinction with those pesky open weight models. Ppl dying from data center pollution? School bombings using their software? Massive theft? Small price for utopia we’ll get any day now.
Dario Amodei: We may be only two or three years away from AI systems being better than humans at almost all tasks. “I call it a country of geniuses in a data center.” “Imagine tens of thousands of geniuses, smarter than a Nobel Prize winner across many fields.” “They could cure diseases and extend the human lifespan.” “I wouldn’t be surprised if we were able to double the human lifespan.” “They may even build robots for themselves and project themselves into the physical world.” “There are all kinds of questions around the balance of power.”

Lol but it’s me who has to answer questions in the press about my “claims” of their goals. They literally spell it out and mainstream media and bought out politicians continue doing press release as a service for them.

These are based on Scott Wiener’s California bills. This is why the AI companies are spending millions on multiple PACs for Scott Wiener. They want the own their regulators, and write any legislation that concerns them.

When Jack Clark, cofounder of Anthropic & their policy guy called my paper a “cognitive mind virus” some of you jumped in on the attack while too gullible to see what they were doing. Some of you are bought out by such corporations. But the rest of y’all are too easy to fool.
