Following a very dry spring and three record-breaking heatwaves, water use across our region has soared—with some homes using 50% more than usual. With the Met Office forecasting more hot, dry weather ahead, we’re implementing a hosepipe ban across our region, effective this Thursday 23 July. We’ve acted now to protect essential supplies so taps keep running for everyone's core needs. While our teams work around the clock to fix leaks, we need your help too. We’re asking everyone to take a break from using: ❌ Hosepipes ❌ Sprinklers ❌ Jet washers Please continue using water as needed to stay healthy and hydrated! 🔗 Read more about the ban and what it means for you: thameswater.co.uk/hosepipe-b…

You can sign up for flood warnings by phone, text or email for homes and organisations in England ☔ You’ll get messages about flooding from rivers, the sea or groundwater, depending on your area. You can’t get flood warnings for surface water flooding or ‘flash flooding’. Sign up for flood warnings at gov.uk/get-flood-warnings

The London Tideway Tunnel Network has diverted over 22 million tonnes of sewage from the River Thames 🌊 And we're already seeing the difference it's making. The first annual Tideway Benefits Report found storm overflow discharges to the tidal Thames have reduced by 86%, while around 84 tonnes of sewage-derived litter were prevented from entering the river in 2025. The #SuperSewer plays a crucial role in supporting local wildlife and biodiversity, as well as creating a cleaner river for the future. 👉 Read the full report at thameswater.co.uk/news/2026/…

💧 September saw another month of low rainfall across London and the Thames Valley. With rivers running below average and groundwater remaining exceptionally dry, our teams are continuing to carefully manage water resources to help maintain resilient supplies for customers and the environment. Thank you to our customers for continuing to use water wisely.

💙 From clearing blockages to cleaning riverbanks, our teams see first-hand the impact wet wipes can have on the environment. Throughout the year, Thames Water colleagues volunteer their time to support clean-up events across the River Thames, including helping remove wet wipes from riverbanks. This #Unblocktober, it's a reminder that what we flush can have a lasting impact. Wet wipes don't break down like toilet paper and are a major cause of sewer blockages. While the upcoming ban on plastic-containing wet wipes is welcome news, the best place for any wipe is still the bin. Only flush the 3Ps: pee, poo and toilet paper. 🚽 #BinItDontBlockIt #WipeOutWipes

🚽 What actually happens to the things you flush? This #Unblocktober, we’re putting wet wipes, cotton buds, tissues and toilet paper to the shake test. The test replicates what happens when items are flushed down the toilet, showing what breaks down and what stays intact. While toilet paper breaks down, many other items don’t, including wet wipes, tissues, cotton buds, sanitary products and nappies. If flushed, these can contribute to significant blockages in our sewers. The upcoming ban on plastic-containing wet wipes is a step in the right direction, but even wipes labelled ‘flushable’ should still go in the bin. Remember the 3Ps: pee, poo and toilet paper. Anything else? Bin it, don’t block it. 🗑️ #BinItDontBlockIt #WipeOutWipes

An estimated 3.8 billion wet wipes are flushed into our network every year. That’s enough to build more than 10 Big Bens 🤯 With #Unblocktober kicking off, there’s no better time to think about what goes down the loo. Wet wipes don't break down and can contribute to blockages - even if they’re labelled biodegradable or flushable 🚽 So remember to only flush the three Ps: pee, poo and (toilet) paper. #BinItDontBlockIt #WipeOutWipes

☀️ A dry August has continued to affect water resources across London and the Thames Valley. Rainfall was well below average, with groundwater and river levels remaining lower than we'd typically expect for this time of year. Reservoir levels are currently at 61% in London and 76% in the Thames Valley. Our teams are continuing to monitor conditions closely and manage water resources to help maintain resilient supplies for customers and the environment. As dry conditions continue, we'd like to thank customers for continuing to use water wisely. 💧

☀️ Hot weather doesn't just affect us above ground, it affects our pipes below the surface too. As the ground dries out, it shifts putting extra pressure on buried pipes, making leaks and bursts more likely during a drought. Take a look beneath the surface to find out what's happening underground and how our teams are working around the clock to keep water flowing 👇 #drought #dryground #leakage

What if you could spot a hidden leak from space? 🛰️ Using AI-powered satellite data alongside more than 75,000 acoustic sensors, we're finding underground leaks faster and more accurately than ever before. This technology is playing a vital role in helping us protect precious water resources during increasingly dry conditions. So far, we've reduced leakage by over 15% since 2019/20, and continue to repair more than 1,000 leaks every week. 👉 Read the full press release at thameswater.co.uk/news/2026/…

🧻 National Toilet Paper Day is the perfect reminder of what should and shouldn't be flushed The toilet is only for the 3 Ps: Pee, Poo and (Toilet) Paper ✅ Wet wipes, sanitary products, cotton buds and kitchen roll belong in the bin. By flushing only the 3 Ps, you can help prevent sewer blockages from building up. Bin it, don't block it. #NationalToiletPaperDay #blockages

Our customers are understandably frustrated when it takes time for us to fix a major burst. This photo shows an example of the scale of what we sometimes have to do. We’re pleased customers are now back in supply on Croydon Road, CR0. We replaced 100km of these pipes in the past year and will be replacing 4x that amount in the next 3.5 years

Our teams are working 24/7 to restore and protect water supplies as quickly and safely as possible to the Cockfosters area, and minimise disruption to customers. The burst has now been successfully isolated, the damaged section of the main has been fully exposed, and our teams are currently working on the repair. While the repair continues, we are providing additional support to customers. Water tankers are being deployed across the affected area to boost the network and to support hospitals. Bottled water stations are available at: 📍 Tesco Extra, EN3 4DP 📍 Highlands School, N21 1QQ Our teams are also continuing to deliver bottled water directly to customers on the Priority Services Register. We understand how disruptive a loss of water can be, and we apologise to customers affected. Our teams remain on site and are continuing to monitor the network, support customers and progress the repair as quickly and safely as possible. After five heatwaves and months of exceptionally dry weather, the Met Office says 2026 is on course to become the UK's hottest summer on record. With the National Drought Group stating that 71.3% of England is now in drought, the need for resilient water supplies has never been clearer. New research reveals 89% of people across the South East support our plans to develop a new reservoir in Oxfordshire. The proposed White Horse Reservoir would secure water supply for 15 million people across the South East, including Thames Water, @AffinityWater and @SouthernWater customers. We're seeing more leaks across our network due to the hot weather and dry ground, but not all leaks can be seen. Around 95% of water lost through leaks comes from bursts hidden underground. That's why every day we use tools such as acoustic sensors and satellite imagery to help locate leaks that can't be seen above ground. Every reported leak is investigated and prioritised based on: 💧 How much water is being lost 💧 Impact on customers and supplies 💧 Complexity of the repair 💧 Location Some repairs can be completed quickly, while others require traffic management or specialist work before they can be safely fixed. Our teams are currently fixing around 20% more leaks than normal, repairing more than 1,000 leaks every week, or one every 10 minutes. Learn more about the process at thameswater.co.uk/help/water…

Our teams have been working around the clock to repair damaged pipes and restore water supplies across Chigwell and the surrounding area. Most customers are now back in supply, although some may still experience low pressure while the network recovers. Our teams remain on site 24/7 and will continue monitoring the system throughout the weekend. See the latest updates at thameswater.co.uk/network-la… Thank you to everyone affected for their patience. 💧
