Marilynn Burch-Harvey’s project, Dear Future YEG Youth ACCCTIVATOR, brought youth together at Edmonton City Hall to build skills in artivism, advocacy, and community mobilization. Youth connected directly with politicians, advocates, and community leaders while sharing their experiences and identifying gaps in youth representation.
For Marilynn, the experience strengthened her confidence as a youth advocate and inspired her to continue creating opportunities for young people to have their voices heard in the decisions that affect them. 💛

Nyakien Buong’s Sprout Ideas Fellowship project, Ethnographies of War: Stories of the Displaced, brought together seven artists to explore stories of war, migration, cultural memory, identity, and belonging through art. The exhibition created space for artists to share personal and intergenerational experiences of displacement on their own terms.
For Nyakien, bringing the exhibition to life also marked the beginning of a new chapter in her own creative journey, building her confidence as a curator and showing how her experiences in anthropology, fashion, and community work can come together in meaningful ways. 💛

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, we remember the children who never came home from residential schools and honour Survivors, their families, and communities. We recognize the grief that continues alongside the strength and hope carried forward.
In the lead-up to this important day and throughout October, Connected North is hosting 73 sessions, with students from 70 schools participating in opportunities to listen, learn, and reflect together.
These conversations remind us that reconciliation is an ongoing responsibility. It calls us to continue learning, recognize past and present injustices, and take meaningful action in support of healing and reconciliation every day.

Designing spaces where everyone can feel a sense of belonging. 💛
Through the Sprout Ideas Fellowship, Rabia Muhammad launched Solid & Void to make spatial design more accessible while exploring how community spaces can support belonging and well-being.
The six-week program brought together participants from diverse professional and lived backgrounds to learn about sensory design, accessibility, and spatial planning before building architectural models of their own community cafés, libraries, and gardens.
Rabia’s project helped participants transform their lived experiences into thoughtful, inclusive visions for the spaces their communities need.
