A little but long. But worth it. As predicted. He had no clue parade on Thursday and is bummed as he wants to go home.

This process, of the outbreak moving between regions within the US, has been one of the most reliable & ignored parts of the pandemic. Cases start going down in one region & everyone acts like it’s over. No, it’s coming for your region next.
The American epidemic is moving from the Deep South to the south west, and northern areas. Unfortunately we are not done yet. Even Vermont who has done well controlling their rate of infection is seeing a rise in cases and a moderate rise in hospitalizations.

Academic writing is wild bc you’ll read four articles just to write one sentence. Anyway, here’s a thread of resources I’ve been using to speed through this review I’m working on:

A close acquaintance of mine died from COVID on Sunday. What saddens me about her death is that she was offered the vaccine but refused because she wanted to see how others reacted.

Great thread. There are 2 problems with much of the variant coverage. On one side, we have: 🚨🚨🚨OMG MUTATION☣️☣️☣️ On the other, we have: Nothing to worry about here, because (T cells/herd immunity/scientists are being negative again) Neither side is 100% wrong or right
Media: Stop freaking people out with scary variant headlines! They're frazzled & we want the public to know when a variant *ACTUALLY* escapes vaccines regularly. Questions to ask when you see a press release 🧵: -Why do scientists think it's deadlier, etc? ("Double mutant"👇🏼🙄)

Why a SARS-CoV-2 variant that's 50% more transmissible would in general be a much bigger problem than a variant that's 50% more deadly. A short thread... 1/
