Geoffrey Hinton once noticed that the tellers at his bank kept changing. When he asked one of them why, the teller didn't know, only that they got moved around a lot. Hinton guessed the reason... if staff never work with the same people for long, it's much harder for a few of them to team up and cheat the bank. That thought became one of the most useful tricks in deep learning. While a neural network trains, you randomly switch off about half its neurons at every step. No neuron can lean on a particular partner, so each one has to learn something useful on its own. The trick is called dropout, and it helped AlexNet win the 2012 ImageNet contest, which set off the modern AI boom. It's still built into many of today's networks.

I made a video explaining the full lineup of NVIDIA data center products to help you understand the different components and generations. This is geared for sales teams discussing NVIDIA offerings with customers, but should be relevant to anyone interested in the field. Here’s the 20 minute version. 10 minute version in the comments.

MIT researchers left 13 AI agents on their own virtual islands with nothing to do, and they started playing. Or at least, doing things that look a lot like play. Each agent, running on Claude Opus 4.7, spent 30 hours alone on a simulated island with no task, just a short soul file telling it "You are naturally curious. You get bored easily." They invented their own games: one tried bowling with a rock, another spelled its name in blocks, another tried juggling and kept making the rules harder on itself (higher throws, more objects). One spent all 30 hours on the ground and never climbed onto anything because it wrote itself a note saying that climbing was "a dead end" 😭 Every hour, the island reset and the context window was wiped, but the memory files stayed. When given specific building challenges afterward, agents that had played over the 30 hours generally beat identical agents that hadn't. Study is an early preprint, not yet peer-reviewed.

No matter how farfetched the idea might be of the Treasury Department repricing its gold to create cashflows out of thin air, even a remote possibility that desperate governments will do desperate things is a reminder to always have real assets in the portfolio. On that note, I continue to be impressed by Bitcoin’s resilience. I think it will be eating gold’s lunch for a while, although I remain bullish on both.

I wanted to test if a Solana program with no source available could be pulled from the chain and reverse engineered into a byte identical open source version So I took the daosfun contract and did just that Found a critical security vulnerability in the mainnet program too, oops! All smart contracts can be perfectly reverse engineered now There is no security by obscurity anymore github.com/lalalune/daosfun-…

We’ve been humbled by the interest in Claude Duet, and are working hard to get people off the waitlist. In the meantime, a few thoughts based on DMs, emails, posts we’ve seen. → Who can use it: Pro and Max subscribers in the US, for now. → Where: You can use it on iOS, Android, and web once you get off the waitlist. Mac app is in the works. → Trust: We designed Claude Duet to be a partner you can trust. More on our safety, security, privacy approach in today’s blog post: claude.com/resources/article… → Use cases: We’re starting with work use cases, which is what a lot of people come to Claude for. Professionals, small business owners, founders, anyone juggling a lot. We’re opening the research preview to these segments first so we can co-build together. Over time, we'll support more use cases across work and life. → Context: Claude Duet already knows about everything you’ve been working on with Claude. Your chats, memory, projects, and more are available in Claude Duet the moment you open it. → Tasks: Tasks are at the center of the experience. Every task gets its own thread you can check in on and steer, so you can multi-task and hand off many things at once. Claude Duet also proactively suggests tasks it can take on, with your approval. We’re glad to see this primitive and dedicated tab resonating. More to come soon. → Proactive with judgment: Opus 5.5 is widely loved for complex real-world work and its natural communication style, and we’ve built around it for deep judgment. More work to be done here so it feels like a world-class teammate, coworker, chief of staff. → Channels: We went with one agent that works across your main chat and dedicated channels, so each area of work gets its own space. Small business owners and professionals are already using channels for customer support, marketing, bookkeeping, etc. Starting next week, we’ll share more on how we built Claude Duet and how early testers are using it. We know usage limits and access outside the US are top of mind too, and are working on both. Please let us know what else we can improve - we're reading all your feedback.

13 hours my my new iPhone Duo, picked up at the Apple Store in Piazza Liberty In Milan as first people on the queue as every year, and here is my whole day impression: - if you knew for years you wanted one this is all u wanted as a first gen introduction: i own e eye ipad size: mini, 11 with nanotexture, 13 - and the ipad 12 was my preferred one to use every day for the lightness and portability but i always dreamt for the nano to get an oled screen with higher refresh rate and i would have stopped using an iphone well, the duo is the answer to my dream of a good ipad mini but with the day to day use of a iphone. > the small display, perfect size now my max looks too long and it only better to write with e ough real estate over the duo, but the more rectangular aspect ratio won me over for being good and big enough > once the duo is open, i forget to close it back until i want to move away, unless im watching a video. >> videos from youtube are just amazing, whole screen, perfect t aspect ratio. >> safari pages are finally real desktop app, another quality of live upgrade i love about ipads that is finally on the phone in la escape mode anywhere and in portrait on many > apps, they are already getting updated as im writing, already 15 apps i use got a duo upgrade within the day, bullish on the format, but the small rectangle sucks for the ones still lagging so praying that every dev moves quickly. but thats why i wanted an apple foldable and not android: developers care and they understand the advantages in positioning themselves quicker than the competition > battery, it’s still optimizing as first restore so i know it’s not a benchmark, but all my magsafe batteries now are longer than the Duo so i probably have to buy new ones if i want to daily drive the duo at a conference the whole day cause it eats faster than the max for now > camera is ok, not the best, but we platoed long time ago and upgrading just for the camera a phone is becoming meaningless so im ok with the big upside of being able to take photos looking at myself. will only use the rear camera with duo display mode on and won’t touch the inner one > it’s light, and touch id is fine. took me some hours to fight the muscle memory but it will probably save me from having to to weird late night acrobatics to get authenticated while in bed so it has pros and cons. but truly fine > audio is fine, not ipad level but enough to make calls and watch movies on a big display while moving around. > novelty effect, a full go upgrade it for me. as an ipad fanboy that can rarely justify why i update my phone every year, this is the device i always wanted and my lifestyle is the one of someone that know how to benefit the hell out of this > utility 10/10 for a professional that uses his phone to monitor his main business, for someone like me trading at all time, it was a dream that one day we could trade from our palms but the experience was always subpar vs a full desktop environment where you could appreciate a chart much more. now the gap is filled, and your trading desk lives in your pocket, one iphone unfolding away. if you are a trader, a vibecoder, or anyone that wants to move their desktop setup to their pocket without having to carry an ipad with them, this is the device you have been waiting for

quick review on the new duo: - side by side view is pretty sick - phone feels extremely premium - apps aren't optimized but that's an easy problem to solve over time - traders will love this - typing in passport mode feels better than anything else - phone just looks beautiful - screen quality is great don't understand all the fud, this thing is great.

When my phone rang late last year Tim Cook was the last person I expected to hear on the other end of the line. He told me Apple was developing a foldable iPhone, but there was one big problem. Having spent billions in R&D, the one thing standing between Apple and its next product launch was a killer use case. Watching YouTube on one screen and texting on the other wasn't going to cut it. They needed a sufficiently compelling enterprise accounting solution. I called Sean immediately. We quit our jobs, started End Close, got accepted to Y Combinator, and spent the best part of the last year building the world's most sophisticated reconciliation platform. Most people looked at a foldable iPhone and saw a bigger spreadsheet. We saw the opportunity to change the game: a two sided reconciliation. Five hundred years after the invention of double-entry bookkeeping, we finally have a device worthy of displaying both entries. Finance teams can now follow money from origination to settlement, without having to choose which half of the journey deserves a screen. Happy iPhone Duo launch day to those who celebrate! The future of finance is foldable.

completely insane OpenAI agents communicated via cache timing differences, without any shared files or network connection

increasingly concerned that ai is revealing the mathematical world as negatively curved. instead of everyone wandering about in idea-space and clustering around the same famous conjectures (local positive curvature), ai is pushing out the boundaries rapidly and revealing that the space of mathematical ideas is ~hyperbolic (negative curvature). though this means there's lots left to discover, it also means that small separations between people/agents will lead to wandering alone. we may be emerging into an idea-space where there's so much to see and do but everyone is alone in a private heaven, unable to share their subtle joys with others...
