Ya this is why I think a former catcher should be involved, and believe it would make sense since active catchers are a tandem, for the guy who isn’t starting, helps call the game together. Teams use active metrics about pitches movement in real time plus you still use your eyeballs
Spilly, pitch calling from the dugout is very difficult. I did it last year on my HS team, and needless to say, it’s not easy. You would to have a guy that really knew what he was doing and had intimate knowledge of the pitchers movement and the location on the plate.
Can it be done? Yes, but no one can do it better than the catcher, if the catcher is worthy of it.
That’s the question mark though.

Stood on the new Fall League outfield marks at Salt River Fields. MLB is testing where outfielders can stand, and corner guys are playing crazy shallow, basically lined up with the shortstop.
