The evacuation order came at sunset. By midnight, the town was nearly empty. Nearly. An elderly man refused to leave his home. When the rescue crew returned, they found the streets crawling with Hollowborn. They couldn't reach him. Then something white flashed past their headlights. A skeletal Hell Hound. Armored muzzle. Black sneakers. He tore through the Hollowborn and disappeared down the street. Ten minutes later, the old man emerged from his house. The Hound walked beside him, keeping the monsters back. The rescue crew rushed forward. "Come on! We have to go!" The old man stopped and turned toward the Hound. "You're coming too, aren't you?" The Hound looked down the street. More Hollowborn were coming. He nudged the man toward the truck. Then turned around. There was only one road into town. And he wasn't letting anything through.

Forty years ago, a nuclear disaster forced an entire town into permanent quarantine. Last Tuesday, the emergency frequency came alive. "Please help us. There are children in the school." A rescue team entered the exclusion zone. Inside the abandoned school, they found twelve children sitting silently at their desks. Then every child turned. Together. "Thank you for bringing us more." The doors slammed shut. Something green illuminated the hallway. Noctis. His radioactive bones burned brighter as he stepped through the doorway. The children dissolved into a single towering Hollowborn. It lunged. Noctis caught it by the throat. One blinding flash later, the creature was gone. The rescue team made it home. And for the first time in forty years... The emergency frequency went silent.

A small-town hotel had been struggling with strange incidents. Guests reported scratching inside the walls. Elevators stopped on empty floors. Security cameras captured shadows moving through locked rooms. Management tried everything. Then somebody suggested hiring a guard dog. The next morning, a bright pink Hell Hound appeared at the front entrance. Wearing a white polo shirt. Nobody knew who sent him. But he looked professional enough. The manager reluctantly let him stay. That night, the security cameras recorded three Hollowborn entering through the basement. At 2:14 AM, every camera went black. At 2:16 AM, the fire alarm sounded. At 2:18 AM, three Hollowborn came crashing through the lobby windows. The Hell Hound followed them outside. By sunrise, the hotel was safe. The manager found him sitting behind the reception desk, wagging his tail. On the counter was a handwritten note: EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH. Underneath, someone had added: First day. No complaints.

Every night at exactly 12:01, a trumpet can be heard somewhere in the old city. Nobody knows where the music comes from. But the locals have noticed something strange. Whenever the trumpet plays, the Hollowborn disappear from the streets. One night, a curious young reporter follows the sound to an abandoned rooftop overlooking the city. There stands Kalleth. White mohawk blowing in the wind. Rainbow visor reflecting the moonlight. Trumpet raised toward the skyline. Below him, dozens of Hollowborn are retreating through the streets. The reporter calls out. "Are they afraid of your music?" Kalleth lowers his trumpet. "No. They know what comes after the last note."

For thirty years, nobody set foot on the island. Fishing boats avoided it. Maps stopped marking it. The locals had one rule. If you hear music coming from the island, don't follow it. Then, one afternoon, the music changed. No haunting melodies. No distant screams Just an electric guitar playing something loud enough to hear from miles away. A fishing crew finally gathered the courage to investigate. They found Revenant sitting beneath a palm tree. Hawaiian shirt. Guitar in hand. Campfire burning. Around him lay the remains of several Hollowborn. The captain stared at the wreckage. "What happened here?" Revenant glanced up. "Had a little trouble with the locals." "Those things have terrorized this island for thirty years!" Revenant shrugged and went back to playing. "Yeah, well... they interrupted my vacation."

For years, the businessman had been buying entire neighborhoods. Families dislocated. Buildings stood empty. Nobody questioned where the money came from. Until Torrick Ashbrand walked into his office. Pink cap. White jersey. A rose between her teeth. He smiled. "Everyone has a price. What's yours?" Torrick glanced at the stacks of cash on his desk. Then at the shadows moving behind him. "You made a deal with the wrong monsters. The businessman turned. Three Hollowborn stood in the darkness. His smile widened. "They promised me protection!" Torrick slowly drew her blade. "They lied." By morning, the Hollowborn were gone. The families were heading home. And the businessman? He finally understood what it meant to owe a debt.

Every hundred years, they offered it a sacrifice. And every hundred years, the earth grew quiet. Until the night the offering was refused. The altar cracked. The temple shook. Something enormous began climbing out of the darkness. The priests fell to their knees. All except one figure standing among them. Silver mohawk. Translucent bones. Eyes burning red. Theon Ashborne. The high priest whispered, "Have you come to claim our offering?" Theon looked into the opening. Then back at the priest. "No. I've come to collect what's been taking them."

EVICTION NOTICE Location: Deadwood Crossing. A pack of Hollowborn had occupied the abandoned town for six months. Travelers avoided it. Merchants took the long way around. Then a Hell Hound wandered into town. No backup. No warning. Just a cowboy hat, a red cape, and a very bad attitude. By sundown, the Hollowborn were gone. Nobody knows where they went. Nobody particularly cares. But the strangest part? The next morning, someone spotted the Hound dragging an old doghouse into the center of town. Apparently... He'd just come home.

THE LAST ORDER At 03:17, an isolated military outpost received an emergency transmission "Evacuate immediately. Leave the equipment. Get your people out." The voice was calm. Authoritative. But nobody recognized the call sign. The commander demanded identification. A single response came back. "Darin Ashforge. You have four minutes." The soldiers obeyed. Three minutes after the last vehicle cleared the perimeter, the outpost disappeared in a wall of fire. Investigators searched the military archives. They found his name. Darin Ashforge. Decorated officer. Killed in action, 1944. But there was something else in his file. A photograph of the soldiers he'd saved during his final mission. On the back, a handwritten message: "To Darin Ashforge. We made it home because of you." More than eighty years later... He was still making sure they did.

The invitation was delivered at midnight. Black envelope. Silver lettering. One name. Aveline Treinthorn. The gathering was supposed to be secret. A private auction where stolen relics and forbidden knowledge changed hands. Every guest had been carefully selected. Except Aveline. Nobody remembered inviting him. Nobody knew how he got past security. And nobody noticed him sitting quietly in the front row. Until the auctioneer looked up. Recognized the face behind those emerald lenses. And stopped speaking. Within seconds, the room was empty. Aveline hadn't even stood up.

They found the inscription in a tomb sealed for more than 3,000 years. Archaeologists translated it as: "When death came with the storm, the Resilient remained." For decades, they assumed it described a pharaoh. It didn't. A sandstorm had swallowed the horizon, and something was moving inside it. The settlement fled toward the Nile. Orvin stayed behind. Seven days later, the storm finally broke. The people returned home. The Hollowborn were gone. Orvin wasn't.

You found this hanging outside your window this morning. There was no storm last night. No rain. No thunder. Not even enough wind to move the trees. But sometime around 02:00, something started whispering across the countryside. By sunrise, these began appearing. Hanging from porches. Fence posts. Abandoned barns. Nobody saw who left them. Nobody heard them arrive. Raef the Whispering Gale noticed something else. The wind isn't touching anything around them. It's only moving the chimes. And Raef says... don't touch them.

There is one rule about the White Gate. If it opens, step back. Don't cross the threshold. Don't look at what waits beyond it. And whatever you hear... do not listen when it calls your name. It will sound familiar. It will sound safe. It may even sound like someone you love. Resist it as long as you can; help will come. The Gate has a way of calling Varion as well.

They say you never see Vakar the Void Watcher arrive. You just look up... and he's already there. Rooftop. Tower. Broken steeple. Doesn't matter. Watching. Nobody knows what he's looking for. But there's one thing the people of the lower city agree on: If Vakar is watching your street, stay inside. Not because of him. Because of whatever he saw coming.
