We are honored to announce that our founder, Dr. Joy Buolamwini, has been awarded the 2024 Digital Civil Rights Award by the @NAACP and Archewell Foundation, the non-profit organization created by Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, in recognition of her advocacy for equitable and accountable AI. First granted in 2022, the annual award celebrates leaders who are creating transformational change at the intersection of social justice and technology, and includes a grant of $100,000 which will be used by @jovialjoy and AJL to advance our work and continue our impact in the field of digital equity. “I am incredibly humbled and honored to join such an illustrious group of receipts for the Digital Civil Rights Award from the NAACP and The Archewell Foundation,” said @jovialjoy. “With the rapid proliferation of AI, it is more crucial than ever to ensure that these algorithms acting as gatekeepers serve us all and do not impede on the civil rights of marginalized communities.
