A lot of asset owners are about to discover that their allocations are far less diversified than the risk teams have presented them.
Looking under the hood:
Active equity books are long semiconductors and AI.
Passive equity sleeves are crowded into mega-cap technology.
Credit is long AI and data-centre related bonds.
Real estate owns data centres.
Private markets are long Anthropic and peers.
ie Different wrappers, same underlying factor.
I call it di-worse-ification and would not be surprised if a number of pension funds are forced toward Total Portfolio Approach frameworks and more rigorous implied factor risk attribution as a result.
Don’t shoot the messenger.
