Dear Rebels Community,
We’d like to share a significant update on the Rebels project. We are releasing today a massive set of updates, including a stunning Ultra Mode (It's Live! Try it Now!) and open-sourcing of the customization infrastructure, ahead of our complete transition of the project to the community after running into a lack of time & funding to continue building the future of Rebels.
Our goal was to create the best-looking NFT collection in the world and to build customization infrastructure for Rebels. Today, we’re releasing both a new mode for the collection and the entire rendering & customization infrastructure in open-source for anyone to use, improve, and evolve - both for 3D and patches.
You will now be able to create your own custom Rebels color palettes, patches, 3D assets.
For this transition, we’re sharing all of the following:
- Ultra Mode for free
- Move to Arweave
- Open-sourcing Rebels 3D Rendering infrastructure: github.com/rebelsbynight/reb…
- Open-sourcing Custom Patch Creation infrastructure: github.com/rebelsbynight/reb…
- Open-sourcing Patch 3D Customization infrastructure: github.com/rebelsbynight/reb…
- Open-sourcing 3D Customization infrastructure: github.com/rebelsbynight/reb…
- Release of all 3D files for the collection, patches, and lore scenes (releasing this week)
- Open-sourcing of the Rebels website (releasing this week)
2) On the move to Arweave
- We moved all the Rebels images & metadata files to Arweave.
- The NFTs are now guaranteed to be available after we shut down our cloud services & buckets.
3) On open-sourcing infrastructure
- We are open-sourcing the 3D rendering infrastructure to enable anyone to re-create the collection from scratch.
- We’ve modified the complex rendering process to ensure that it can run on MacBooks with less than 16Gb of RAM.
- We are open-sourcing the patch creation and customization infrastructure so that anyone can create 3D patches with their own NFTs and apply them on their Rebel.
- We are open-sourcing the infrastructure that allows people to update the backgrounds and balaclavas to the picture of their choice.
4) On the Rebels.art website
- The website will now be available for anyone to deploy and run, locally or on a firebase account.
- Anyone will be able to add features to the website on the GitHub repository for anyone else to leverage whether you want to create a branded marketplace, more customization features, you name it.
5) On the release of all 3D files
- Obviously we want to make sure that the 3D files are available for anyone to use, improve, tweak.
- Whether you want to create new palettes, new characters in the Rebels world, or leverage the existing environments, you are now able to.
- This release includes the 3D files of the main collection with each assets and color palettes. The only licensing constraint for the collection’s 3D files is that they can only be used for the Rebels project - no other NFT project.
- This release includes the 3D files of the patches with every picture, material, and position for each asset and for each zone of per asset. The only licensing constraint for the patches’ 3D files is that they can only be used for the Rebels project - no other NFT project.
- This release includes the 3D files of all the 3D scenes of the Rebels lore so that anyone can create more content around the Rebels world.
(releasing this week due to how massive the files are)
We are infinitely grateful for the opportunity to be part of a community filled with genuinely amazing people. The tremendous support since the very beginning has been heartwarming.
Although we've always been transparent about Rebels being a side-project and not a full-time job for the team, we've dedicated the last year and a half to building what we believe is the most advanced customization infrastructure in the entire NFT space.
With this update, we're hopeful that many talented and creative individuals will be able to customize their Rebels to their liking and create new experiences, add patches, design frontends, or even introduce new 3D assets.
The control of the Rebels smart contracts will be relinquished to a multi-sig of the core community members (Rebels Council?) that has already been selected so that more modes & features can get built for Rebels.

Create a cinematic fine-art photographic scene using the uploaded character as the sole subject.
The uploaded character must remain an exact instance of the original character.
Preserve exactly:
• head-to-body proportions
• original anatomy
• eye shape, spacing, and stylization
• silhouette and structural design
• material identity
• clothing, footwear, accessories, and surface details already present
Do not humanize the character.
Do not redesign the character.
Do not invent anatomy.
Do not add clothing, props, accessories, or environmental objects.
The visual concept is:
THERE IS NO GRAVITY.
The character is floating weightlessly inside an enormous empty photographic space.
The character is not jumping, falling, flying, or performing an action.
Gravity simply does not exist.
The body should appear completely suspended in space, as if the physical relationship between the character and the ground has quietly disappeared.
WEIGHTLESSNESS
The character floats several meters above an undefined ground plane.
The entire body is suspended freely in the air with no visible support.
There should be no ropes, wires, platforms, clouds, wings, propulsion, or supernatural energy.
The character does not appear to be controlling the movement.
The pose should feel naturally unposed and physically plausible for a body with zero gravitational force.
Arms and legs should hang or drift subtly according to inertia.
The torso may rotate slightly in space.
The head may be angled gently away from the camera.
The body should feel inert, quiet, and completely unaware that gravity has disappeared.
Avoid heroic poses.
Avoid flying poses.
Avoid action poses.
Avoid exaggerated limbs.
Avoid dramatic superhero anatomy.
The unsettling quality comes from the absence of gravity itself.
SPATIAL COMPOSITION
Place the floating character slightly off-center within an enormous field of negative space.
The character should occupy only a relatively small portion of the frame.
There should be a vast amount of empty pale space surrounding the figure.
The character should appear isolated from everything.
No visible architecture.
No furniture.
No landscape.
No recognizable environment.
No horizon.
No objects.
The space should feel almost infinite.
CAMERA
Photographic long-lens perspective, approximately 100–135mm.
Camera positioned slightly below the floating character.
The character should appear suspended above the viewer rather than standing in front of them.
Use moderate optical compression.
The perspective should remain photographic and believable.
Do not use an exaggerated wide-angle perspective.
LIGHT
Use one extremely powerful directional light source positioned behind and slightly above the character.
Create a thin luminous rim around portions of the silhouette.
The front of the character remains predominantly subdued and shadowed.
The light should gradually dissolve into a large field of pale atmospheric haze.
Create a tonal progression:
white atmospheric glow → pale grey → soft grey → charcoal → deep black.
The character should never be evenly illuminated.
Some parts of the body may disappear into shadow.
The silhouette must remain recognizable despite the darkness.
SHADOW
The absence of gravity should be reinforced by the shadow.
If a shadow is visible, it should be extremely distant and detached from the character.
The shadow should not sit directly underneath the body.
It may appear far below, faintly distorted through atmospheric haze, creating the disturbing impression that the character and its physical shadow no longer occupy the same space.
The shadow should be subtle rather than graphic.
ATMOSPHERE
Fill the environment with extremely subtle photographic haze.
The farther parts of the frame should gradually lose contrast.
The character should feel suspended inside air rather than composited onto a background.
Use atmospheric depth around the silhouette.
There should be no obvious CGI fog.
The haze must feel like real photographic light scattering.
PHOTOGRAPHIC TREATMENT
Render as an aged monochrome fine-art photograph.
Use:
• pronounced organic film grain
• silver-gelatin print texture
• subtle halation
• gentle highlight bloom
• slightly crushed blacks
• soft tonal transitions
• tiny film imperfections
• subtle dust
• faint vignette
• restrained archival photographic softness
Avoid polished digital clarity.
Avoid CGI appearance.
Avoid clean 3D rendering.
Avoid perfectly sharp edges.
The image should feel physically photographed on large-format film and printed decades ago.
MONOCHROME
Near-monochrome black and white.
Very subtle warm-neutral photographic paper tone is acceptable.
No saturated colors.
The original character colors may become heavily suppressed by the monochrome treatment, but the character’s structural identity must remain exact.
EMOTIONAL DIRECTION
The image should communicate:
weightlessness,
silence,
isolation,
physical impossibility,
and quiet existential dread.
It should not feel magical.
It should not feel like a fantasy scene.
It should feel like an ordinary photographic moment in a world where one fundamental law of physics has silently stopped working.
There is no explosion.
There is no special effect.
There is no explanation.
There is simply no gravity.
The image should create the unsettling realization:
the character is floating,
nothing is holding it,
and nobody seems surprised.
IDENTITY PRIORITY
The uploaded character remains the only subject.
Do not introduce additional characters.
Do not duplicate the character.
Do not add objects to explain the floating.
Do not add wings.
Do not add cables.
Do not add smoke trails.
Do not add magical particles.
Do not add energy fields.
Do not add futuristic technology.
The impossible situation must be communicated entirely through composition, body suspension, lighting, scale, atmosphere, and photographic treatment.
FINAL IMAGE
A haunting archival monochrome photograph of the uploaded character silently suspended in an enormous empty space.
The scene should feel minimal, physically impossible, anonymous, and deeply quiet.
The character is not flying.
The character is not falling.
The character is simply no longer affected by gravity.
No text.
No logos.
No colorful grading.
No centered symmetry.
No heroic pose.
No digital rendering.
Aspect ratio 4:5.
