Sydney to New York, non-stop ✈️
We’re excited to announce the first ever commercial non-stop flights between Australia and New York will launch from 2028 as part of Project Sunrise.
As demand for travel between Australia and the United States continues to grow, this new route strengthens one of our most important international markets.
Together with the launch of direct Sydney to Las Vegas services later this year and Sydney to London non-stop in 2027, it represents a significant step forward in connecting Australia with the world.
A lie-flat bed on a Qantas single-aisle aircraft is coming.
Our new Business Suites for the Airbus A321XLR have been designed to transform longer journeys, with comfort, privacy and flexibility at the centre of the experience.
Rolling out across 16 new A321XLR aircraft from 2028, every Suite will feature a lie-flat bed, direct aisle access, and a sliding privacy door.
History made.

A major milestone for Project Sunrise 👏
Our @Airbus A350-1000ULR has completed its maiden test flight, marking a significant step toward non-stop services between Australia's east coast and London and New York.
The specially designed aircraft departed Toulouse for a three hour and 43 minute journey over France and the French Atlantic Coast, operated by two Airbus flight test pilots, three flight test engineers, and one ground test engineer.
This marks the start of a two-month testing campaign for the aircraft, which has been custom-configured for Qantas' ultra-long-range operations. A second Project Sunrise aircraft is currently being painted in Qantas livery with its science-backed cabin interiors fitted.
More to come on that soon… 👀
Sydney Weather Update ⛈️
Sydney is experiencing significant weather disruptions today, and we know many of our customers are feeling the impact.
A strong weather system is bringing gusty winds, rain and offshore thunderstorms, with Sydney Airport currently operating on a single runway. This is causing delays, disruptions and cancellations across some of our Qantas and QantasLink services this afternoon and into this evening.
Our teams are working hard to get customers moving, including upgrading some of our services to larger aircraft and scheduling 12 additional flights tomorrow.
If your flight is affected, we'll be in touch via the Qantas App, email and SMS. You can also check your flight status and manage your booking at qantas.com or in the Qantas App before heading to the airport.
The good news is conditions are forecast to improve overnight. We appreciate your patience and understanding as our teams continue to stay focused on getting you on your way as soon as we can.
Viva Las Vegas! 🤩
We are excited to be the first airline in the world to launch non-stop scheduled flights between Australia and the Entertainment Capital of the World.
Starting in December this year, our Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner will connect Sydney and Las Vegas three times a week, through to March 2027 – right in time for some of Vegas’ biggest tech events, and the annual Rugby League Festival
Congratulations, Aussies! What a way to wrap up the 2025/26 #Ashes 🏆🇦🇺

Our first @Airbus A350-1000ULR (Ultra Long Range) aircraft is now on the final assembly line in Toulouse! 😍
This marks a significant step in #ProjectSunrise, which will conquer the final frontier of long-haul travel with non-stop flights between Australia's east coast and London and New York.
All key airframe components including the forward, centre and rear fuselage sections have come together, along with the wings, tail section, and landing gear now attached.
This week the aircraft will be transferred to a new hangar where it will have engines and flight test instruments installed in preparation for an extensive test flight programme, commencing in 2026 ahead of delivery late next year.
