The Pulitzer Center is excited to present our 2025 annual report!
This year is special as it leads us toward our 20-year anniversary in 2026. Before the celebrations, let’s reflect on our impact over the past year. 🧵

When an outsourcing company facing workers in court took its problem to Kenya's president, William Ruto later declared: “We have changed the law.” That's one piece of a much bigger story. We traced at least 12 engagements between Kenya's government and some of the world's biggest technology companies. These agreements and details of who negotiated them remain out of public view. Our investigation into Big Tech's growing reach inside the Kenyan state.

An investigation produced in partnership with the @pulitzercenter's AI Accountability Network.
ALT ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Copilot assist public officials with their daily tasks. Out of the 24 agencies surveyed, only four reported having a formal policy governing the use of these tools. In most cases, each official decides—without clear guidelines—which government-held data can be provided to AI.
War correspondent Scott Anderson has spent nearly four decades reporting from some of the world's most volatile places.
Ten years ago, Anderson's New York Times Magazine project, Fractured Lands, traced the lives of six people across the Middle East as war, dictatorship and the Arab Spring transformed the region.
His latest book, "King of Kings," examines the fall of Iran's last shah in the late 1970s, the Islamic Revolution that followed and how it has shaped Iran today.
Anderson joined @GeoffRBennett to discuss more. The conversation was produced in partnership with the @pulitzercenter.

Who is behind the fish on the Korean dinner table today?
Despite a declining fishing village population and labor shortages, South Korea’s fishing industry is growing today. Migrant fishermen —who make up half of the fishing fleet’s workforce—have been the backbone of this growth.
However, it is not widely known that a multi-layered structure of exploitation exists that ensnares their lives even before they board Korean fishing vessels.
@newstapa , with support from @pulitzercenter , is collaborating with @JARING_ , an independent Indonesian media outlet, and @ejfoundation , to investigate the supply chain surrounding migrant fishing workers in South Korea through a series of reports.
The 1st piece exposes the reality of the exorbitant recruitment fees and security deposit paid by migrant fishermen.
