The tradeoff is honest: safety > liveness. A "based" bridge prefers to stall rather than leak. Griefers can force stalls, yes. But griefing has real cost (PoW burn, forfeited rewards, social/legal exposure on known pools), and griefing != theft. Users can exit slowly; they cannot be drained suddenly.

Syscoin is not โpure PoS with extra steps,โ and not โplain PoW with a bolt-on finality gimmick.โ It is a hybrid settlement-layer design: objective PoW/Nakamoto liveness, bounded BFT-style finality, merge-mined external security, and operator-friendly local safety policies. For slow settlement with zk/execution layers above, that is arguably a better architecture than many alternatives.
