We took a piece of articleOne & spun it out so everyone could benefit. Why? Because we needed it ourselves -- the same reason we built articleOne.

The Senate is currently voting by voice on the motion to invoke cloture on H.R. 1748, Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2026. The DHS portion of the package is opposed by all Democrats and any change to the bill would require the House to return from their current recess.
The Senate is out this week. The House is scheduled to be out next week. A major winter storm expected to hit DC on Friday and Saturday. CR expires January 30 and ~75% of discretionary funding including DoD has yet to be handled. (1/2)

🎅 Merry Christmas to all who celebrate, and happy holidays from #TeamManitou! 🎄
Ever notice that some bills have unusual names? Hint: see what acronym they create to see why they feel shoehorned! Both parties and both chambers have been crafting clever combinations for ages. 🥸

The 2026 House Calendar has been released by majority leadership!

Shutdown Day 43: THE END … for now. The House passed the bill by a vote of 222-209, and POTUS is expected to sign at 9:45PM ET. The Senate amendment version includes a minibus of 3 appropriations bills and an extension of the CR through January 30, 2026, among other provisions.
Shutdown Day 41: This isn’t what happened. A PSA to check your sources, particularly if relying on AI or social media (or both, in this case).
The lapse in appropriations (shutdown) continues, with the House, Senate, and president all still having a role to play.
Also hearing there may be a RIFs component. But then the House has to get back to town amidst significant flight cancellations and delays. This could be messy, folks — IF it happens. Very little in DC these days goes “according to plan.”
Here’s how things will work procedurally to reopen the government.
The Senate, as soon as this evening, will vote on a motion to reconsider the House-passed CR. This is simply the vehicle. Needs 60.
The new CR (Jan. 30 end date) + the 3-bill minibus would eventually be subbed in as the final product.
But this process could take several days without a time agreement.
A majority of the Senate Dem caucus will end up opposing this deal to reopen the government. So they would have to decide whether to drag it out even though the result is inevitable. Any individual senator can do this.
Shutdown Day 36: Longest lapse in appropriations in U.S. history. Some signs of movement: a) ~3-hour Senate Democrats lunch yesterday and b) POTUS to host Senate Republicans at the WH today to discuss reopen. (1/3)
One potential scenario: Senate takes 3-bill minibus and attaches it to a CR extending beyond current 21NOV25 date in House-passed bill. Unclear whether to late Dec. or early 2026. (2/3)
Which three? Ag, MilCon-VA, and Legislative Branch. (3/3)

Shutdown Day 32: Big milestone today as SNAP benefits pause and many Americans learn about substantial health insurance cost increases for 2026. Members of both parties have been active with statements and social media on both topics (and more) — with no assured end in sight.

Shutdown Day 24: Happy Friday to all who celebrate. House majority leadership just announced that votes are canceled on Monday, as there remains no clear pathway to ending the shutdown.
