And consider that language as compared to some of the other areas of that preliminary injunction order: the court didn’t give Blanche an ‘out’ to explain why he couldn’t do the translations; the court ordered him to ‘immediately initiate review and production,’” she added. She says that the real purpose of the tarp is to “hide their embarrassment" after they were court-ordered to remove Trump's name. President John F. Kennedy's name has been restored and once that tarp comes down, social media will be flooded with triumphant photographs rubbing the defeat in Trump's face. He can't stand the thought of such widespread mockery. Beatty's attorneys pointed out that other parts of the building are not covered up. Only the facade, which is where the building's name is mounted, remains covered. The administration isn't even bothering to gin up plausible deniability here. “Defendants tellingly have not done so for months, leaving only the Center’s iconic name obscured—a strong indication that this structure has nothing to do with the roof and is, instead, meant to defy a return to the status quo,” the lawyers wrote. Last week, the Kennedy Center Board attempted to bypass the order to remove Trump's name by voting to add an inscription to the facade that would read beneath its official name “Restored and Renovated by President Donald J. Trump." They also voted to rename the center’s grounds to ⁠the “President Donald J. "There have been widespread reports of shortages of basic supplies, water contamination, plumbing issues, deteriorating mental health, deck safety concerns, and disruptions in the mail system, which have caused many care packages en route to the ship to be lost in transit for months," Senator Richard Blumenthal wrote in a letter to Hegseth and Navy Secretary Hung Cao. "These reports warrant immediate attention, but they also raise a broader question: whether the Navy can sustain the operational tempo now being demanded of its carrier force, particularly as this Administration repeatedly commits U.S. forces to conflicts of its own choosing and increasingly relies on aircraft carriers to sustain those operations," he added. Recent reports in the Navy Times and Stars and Stripes have revealed that the roughly 5,000 sailors and Marines aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln are struggling with the psychological stress of their record-breaking nine-month deployment. They have been at sea without touching land for 250 days straight, all in support of Trump's illegal, pointless war with Iran. Pete Hegseth — who is insulated completely from the consequences of this murderous conflict on his sprawling estate while our service men and women bear the cost overseas — claimed today that the situation aboard the Lincoln is being "completely misrepresented." As always with this pathologically dishonest alcoholic, it's safe to presume that the truth is the opposite of whatever he says. In his letter, Senator Blumenthal pointed out that overly long deployments for aircraft carriers have become the norm under President Trump who, it should be noted, is a draft-dodger with no appreciation for our military members and their sacrifices. "Recent carrier deployments have repeatedly stretched beyond their originally anticipated durations, suggesting that extended deployments may be becoming a feature rather than an exception of the Navy's force-generation model," Blumenthal wrote. "The Administration has yet to adequately explain the objectives, end state, or anticipated duration of those operations. If the Administration intends to maintain a prolonged military campaign or an elevated carrier presence in the region, it must explain how it intends to ensure today's operational requirements do not create tomorrow's readiness crisis," he added. The letter demands that Hegseth and Cao reply with an overview of the Navy's plans to sustain the carrier strike groups in the Middle East for the next 12 to 24 months, as well as details about the authorization process for the Lincoln's prolonged deployment. On top of that, Blumenthal wants information on the "habitability, supply and quality-of-life problems" aboard the Lincoln and a rundown of how the Navy is monitoring the "fatigue, morale, mental health and crew readiness." This debacle proves once again that Republicans love to screech about "supporting the troops" but in practice they are the worst enemies of our service members. They take these brave men and women for granted and needlessly thrust them into harm's way and needlessly grueling conditions. Blumenthal's letter is a brilliant strategic move for Democrats because it creates a robust paper trail ahead of the midterms.
