Russia can be brought to the negotiating table for a just and lasting peace only after it has been defeated in its war of aggression. Simple.
Trump pressures Lithuania to crack EU potash sanctions on Belarus
First the russian diesel over Canada.
Now belarussian potash.
Why not do regime change in belarus and secure all the potash the US wants for free?

Russia’s deadly attack on the Dnipro train station is yet another brutal assault on Ukrainian civilians. It makes abundantly clear that Moscow is not interested in peace.
I extend my deepest condolences to the victims and their families.
At the EU-Canada Summit and the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Atlanta, I will urge partners to further strengthen our support for Ukraine and advance accountability, including through the Special Tribunal and Claims Commission.
Russia must be held accountable.

On the night of October 29–30, 1937, Stalin’s NKVD executed 132 people in Minsk. Among them were Belarusian poets, writers, scientists and teachers.
Yuliy Taubin was just 26. Valery Marakou was 28. They were publishing books, translating foreign authors, falling in love and making plans. They should have had decades of life and work ahead of them.
Their books were banned, their manuscripts burned, their names erased from textbooks. The regime wanted people to forget they had ever lived. Some of their work is lost forever. We will never know what else they might have created.
Today, Belarusians are again imprisoned for their words and views. Books are banned, and cultural figures remain behind bars. When I think about 1937, I cannot help thinking about the families living with fear in Belarus now.
But the poems that survived are still being read, translated and set to music. We can still hear these poets speak about love, friendship, joy and uncertainty. We can recognise something of ourselves in their words.
On this Night of Executed Poets, I ask you to find one of their poems. Read it to yourself or someone you love. Learn about the person who wrote it.
We cannot return the lives that were taken. But we can keep their words alive and work for a Belarus where no one is punished for what they write, say or believe.

Ukrainians exercised their right to self-determination and established their own state. But there is no separate Donbas nation. Russians already have a state of their own. Those who wish to live in Russia are free to move there
Donbas has a right to secede from Ukraine if Ukraine had a right to secede from the USSR. You cannot uphold the right of self-determination in one case but not in the other.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Ukraine seceded as a Soviet republic with explicit secession rights under the 1977 USSR Constitution; Donbas was an oblast in unitary Ukraine, whose constitution makes its territory indivisible. 2014 Donbas referendums lacked legal basis and were illegitimate.

The Trump-putin “Blood Diesel" scam is collapsing.
Trump and putin thought they could cut a shady backroom deal to pump Russian oil into America. Instead, their shadow fleet of sanctioned tankers is floating aimlessly in the ocean, unwanted and locked out!
Sanctioned shadow ships like the Talisman and Leruo are drifting toward the U.S. carrying putin’s toxic cargo, but nobody wants to touch it.
Washington and Moscow are urging American companies to purchase Russian blood diesel at significant discounts, but businesses are concerned about legal and reputational risks due to sanctions, writes The Washington Sun.
According to the publication, at least three tankers carrying Russian diesel set sail toward the US in mid-October after Trump temporarily allowed such supplies. The vessels are scheduled to arrive at American ports after the midterm elections, but there are still no buyers for the cargo.
Instead of the US, the tankers may be redirected to Brazil, which is already purchasing significant volumes of Russian diesel fuel.
While the White House tried to cook up a temporary waiver, the strict sanctions from the EU, Canada, and the U.K. remain fully in place, leaving these vessels legally toxic worldwide.
State leaders like those in New Jersey are stepping up, threatening legal blocks to keep these rogue vessels away from regional ports.
Lawmakers, including Senator Richard Blumenthal are warning shipping companies and ports that executive loopholes do not override federal congressional laws banning Russian oil. Touch this cargo, and face severe legal consequences!
“Any company or individual thinking about purchasing Russian diesel should be aware that they’re committing a crime and that Congress is watching,” Blumenthal told The Sun in a statement. “Also, they may be held accountable by a future administration even if this one looks the other way.”
You can't bypass federal law, international sanctions, and a disgusted public just to bail out the Kremlin.
Turn those ghost ships around!

To speak honestly is one of our weapons, to be open, and to be clear. Not to play games with our partners. This is my rule of thumb. There is a lot of pressure on Ukraine at the moment, and of course I have to be louder. And I will be, because it's part of our defense strategy. We are not trying to be somebody else. If I feel that dangerous things are looming over Ukraine, I have to defend my country. And I do what I can, like our soldiers on the battlefield and people who work for Ukraine. And I, the President, have to use every format of diplomacy.

"Within days, Russian soldiers poisoned their dog, an Alabai, along with all the other large dogs in Oleshky. They killed Liudmila’s nextdoor neighbor and raped his wife. A local butcher disappeared; no one knew whether he was also killed. Some neighbors were detained and beaten. Armed, masked soldiers searched Liudmila’s home three times, confiscating the couple’s Ukrainian passports and leaving them with no documents. And yet, Liudmila and Andriy stayed. They got a new puppy, also an Alabai. Russian troops started to move into civilian houses, parking tanks in what once were gardens."

How many times must this be repeated?
russia will continue its mass crimes until it is defeated. Ukrainians don't need condolences, but weapons to destroy russian military bases.
Let’s stop repeating the fanciful mantra about a “just and lasting peace.” Diplomacy leads nowhere.
Thank you for your condolences, António. Today, Russia carried out cynical strikes that claimed the lives of 19 people. Another 71 people were injured, including 11 children. Dozens of those wounded are now in hospitals. Our medical professionals are providing care and doing everything they can to save lives.
Once again, Russia is showing its true attitude towards de-escalation and the efforts by Ukraine, the United States, Europe, and our other partners around the world to end this war and stop the killings.
Of course, support from the EU and every EU Member State is extremely important to us right now. We deeply appreciate all the assistance you are providing. We must further mobilize our joint efforts ahead of this winter to ensure that Ukraine has the necessary capabilities to defend itself against Russian missiles and drones.

You know, I've been racking my brain trying to remember when else in history a great military power launched a war of aggression against a neighboring country, failed to defeat it on the battlefield for years -- and then the leadership of another great power (which the aggressor had regarded as its archenemy until just yesterday!!) engaged in petty, sordid collusion with the aggressor, made a complete 180-degree turn, and began actively working to force its undefeated victim into capitulation and extinction as a nation.
I'm honestly trying to think of historical precedents -- but it seems that never before in the history of this world under the heavens has there been such a spectacular display of deranged idiocy.

“This spring, the U.S. military faced a similar dilemma in the Middle East. According to a Reuters report that cited Pentagon documents, U.S. forces used Starshield to pilot their drones for strikes against Iran. When SpaceX found out, it raised the price for Starshield service in that region from roughly $5,000 per terminal per month to $25,000. The Pentagon agreed to pay.
In Ukraine, Musk could be attempting a similar upsell.”
