Brake Safety Week thins capacity every year. This year it wasn't close to normal. Truck posts dropped 10% for dry van, 8.7% for reefer, and 8.8% for flatbed last week. The five-year average for the same week is a decline of 2% to 4%. Drivers had more reason to park this time around, with inspections covering driver credentials, English-language proficiency, and immigration status on top of brakes. Rates responded. Reefer spot linehaul, meaning the rate without the fuel surcharge, rose about 6 cents to $2.69 per mile and ended a seven-week slide. Van slipped 2 cents to $2.19 and flatbed 3 cents to $2.67, both slower declines than the week before. Out of Fresno, reefer loads heading east of the Mississippi picked up an average of 19 cents per mile, roughly triple the national move. The load-to-truck ratio tells the fuller story. Dry van hit 12.01, up from 9.62 the prior week and 6.69 a year ago, the highest Week 35 reading in our 10-year comparison. Reefer hit 23.55. Van load posts are running 22.2% above last year while van truck posts sit 31.9% below. Brake Safety Week ends. That capacity gap doesn't. Did your fleet or your carriers sit out Brake Safety Week this year, and how much did it move your rates?

🤖 Automation in freight doesn't fail because the tech is bad. It fails because it doesn't know how you actually run your business. Kary Jablonski joined Chris Jolly on The Freight Coach to explain why context is the missing layer.

The July peak didn't hold. Spot linehaul rates fell across every major equipment type this week. Dry van dropped $0.06 to $2.32 per mile minus fuel, reefer dropped $0.07 to $2.65, and flatbed dropped $0.04 to $2.83. Flatbed is now $0.18 off the all-time high it set in early July. Month-end usually pushes volume up. This time load posts went the other way. Rates still run 38 to 42% above last year, and that gap is doing real work with average over-the-road diesel near $5.47 a gallon. But spot linehaul now sits above contract in dry van and reefer, which means the next bid season looks nothing like the last one. Where are you setting your floor for the rest of Q3? #DATMarketUpdate #FreightMarket #Trucking #SpotRates

Flatbed had a red-hot July, so what does this week's pullback actually mean?🚛 📉 Spot rates dipped to $2.87/mile this week, down 2.7% from last week 📈 Still up over 40% year-over-year, holding well above the seasonal average 🏭 Load posts fell 9.2% week-over-week as industrial demand eased 🔮 RateCast projects rates ticking back up to $2.91/mile over the next 35 days Are you seeing rates ease up in your lanes, or still riding the summer highs? 👀 bit.ly/4vVMwqW #Flatbed #FreightMarket #Trucking #DATMarketUpdate #SpotRates

What happens to freight when the World Cup comes to town? We're seeing it play out in real time⚽ Global sporting events don't just move fans. They move freight. As World Cup matches continue across North America, host cities are pulling in more refrigerated freight to support hospitality, food service, retail, and game-day demand. Layer that on top of July 4 shipping and peak produce season, and it's creating a noticeable shift in the market. Across World Cup host markets, we're seeing: 📈 Inbound reefer rates up 11.4% since early May 🚛 Tightening truckload and reefer capacity as carriers reposition equipment toward event-driven demand 📍 The Northeast leading the way, with Philadelphia, New York/New Jersey, and Boston posting some of the strongest inbound reefer rates 💰 Host city reefer rates pulling away while many non-host markets begin to soften The World Cup may be played on the pitch, but its impact extends well beyond the stadium. As freight demand concentrates in host cities, the ripple effects are showing up across the supply chain. Is your market feeling the World Cup effect yet?👀 bit.ly/4eQFm0y

Records are falling. Three more go down. Flatbed linehaul (rate minus fuel) rates hit $2.93/mile this week, an all-time record, $0.18 above the June 2021 peak after 12 consecutive weeks of gains. Dry van linehaul rates are at $2.39/mile, a new Week 22 record up 43% year-over-year. Reefer is $0.03 from its own all-time mark at $2.69/mile, sitting 37% above last year. Behind the numbers, the demand story is strengthening: the ISM Manufacturing PMI just hit its highest reading in four years, with New Orders at 56.8% and backlogs still building. This isn't just a Roadcheck blip, it’s a sign that the fundamentals are moving. If you're still pricing freight the way you were last summer, the market has already moved past you. What's your biggest exposure heading into the back half of Q2?

Freight volumes may be holding steady, but transportation costs are telling a different story🚚 According to the latest U.S. Bank Freight Payment Index: 📦 Shipment volumes remained relatively flat 💰 Freight spending increased 🚛 Higher transportation costs continue to put pressure on shippers It's another sign that market conditions are shifting, even without a significant increase in freight demand 👉 bit.ly/4un5O7L
