One man, one car, ninety minutes. By the end of the drive his marriage, his job, and his unborn child have all fallen apart, on the same phone call. None of it waited its turn. (Locke, if you haven't seen it.) Most people move through their day the same way, where nothing pauses for anything else to finish. So why do we still plan media like one message has to land before the next one can? #WhatMovesPeople

Picture this: You’re waiting for the bus, it starts raining, you start scrolling on your phone, slightly annoyed. An ad for Netflix rolls across the screen above you. You don’t look up. Then: an ad for a café 30 seconds away, "still warm, still open." You look up. You walk over. Same you, same three minutes, same rain. One ad had no resonance with you in the moment - although you were the target audience. The other read the job you needed done - and got you moving. Knowing who is standing at the bus stop isn’t necessarily enough. What empowers action is addressing what that person needs in that moment. #WhatMovesPeople (Concept from Competing Against Luck, Clayton Christensen)

The human brain processes roughly 11 million bits of information every single second. How much of that reaches our conscious mind? Just about 40 bits. Because the brain defaults to low-effort processing, most daily inputs - including media - are meant to be felt in the background rather than deeply analyzed. Building mental availability then becomes more about consistency, moving towards familiarity. By the time someone sits down to actively weigh options, their subconscious has decided what feels recognizable enough to notice. So what actually forces the brain off autopilot into active evaluation? And, Does advertising ever have the power to create the buying window, or does it simply sit in memory until a real-world trigger opens it? @AdTechGod what's your take?

Some thoughts on the human decision process and how different media interact with it: Needs → Attention → Evaluation → Choice → Outcome → Learning We often talk about brand media building "awareness", but what it’s actually building is the frame of reference. Before someone enters the active evaluation stage, their brain silently establishes three baselines: 1. The Price/Value Anchor: What feels "reasonable" versus "cheap" or "overpriced." 2. The Default Expectation: The features or attributes a brand must have to be taken seriously. 3. The Risk Threshold: What feels like a safe, legitimate choice versus a risky gamble. So, when someone eventually sits down to evaluate options (via Search, retail shelves, or review sites), they do not compare choices objectively. They weigh options against the frame that was built in their subconscious weeks prior through passive exposure, such as OOH, TV, broad video. Consistent physical presence that builds trust and familiarity. Search and performance channels answer the consumer's final question: "Which option matches my criteria?" Brand media sets the answer to an earlier question: "What criteria should I even care about?" Your real leverage in media planning isn't winning the comparison against your competitors. You can go one step further - and define the standard everyone else gets compared against. #WhatMovesPeople

A decade ago - World Cup 2014. We built a screen in Kuala Lumpur that Twitter controlled. Fans tweeted their team's hashtag. The flag with the most votes unfurled on Malaysia's largest OOH screen. 18,000 tweets came from Malaysia, where the screen physically stood. 396,000 came from outside it. An OOH campaign that used social to extend its reach… Or a social campaign that used a screen to become real? youtu.be/C2IOPYfQ3fY?is=GvMO… #FIFAWorldCup #WhatMovesPeople

Minority Report imagined signage that knows your name. We got curious about something stranger: signage that knows who's already been reached. Imagine it’s 2028: your brand's ad agent is bidding for 4 seconds of attention on the I-405, against 17 others chasing the same moment. The agent that wins doesn't bid the most. It answers one question the others don't: has this person already been reached today, on social, a podcast, anywhere? We ran the numbers on something close to this recently: a SEA brand lift study across a social platform + DOOH. Of everyone who recalled seeing the OOH campaign: 35% also recalled seeing it on social. The other 65% - social's plan did not reach them. That's not just a reach number. It's an incremental one. The audience DOOH added that social, run alone, would've missed entirely. Now, this is a self-reported recall, not a passive usage panel. It tells us who remembers being reached twice. We’re working towards identifying who was reached twice without noticing. Still, is 65% incremental a case for more OOH budget, or a case that the social plan is under-reaching to begin with? Curious how others would read this one. #WhatMovesPeople
