"Since $100 million in New York and 22 fish-hooks on the border of the Arctic Circle represent the same financial supremacy, a man in straitened circumstances is a fool to stay in New York when he can buy ten cents' worth of fish-hooks and emigrate." - Mark Twain

Here’s an interesting fact. Morgan Housel threw out a third of The Psychology of Money while writing it. He started with traditional long chapters (4k–6k words). It felt wrong, almost rambling, full of fluff. So he scrapped it and rewrote the book as 20 short, story-driven chapters in the style he’d already mastered online. Every major U.S. publisher rejected it. A small U.K. house took it with a 5,000-copy first print run. It went on to sell millions.

A similar story, from Howard Marks: "I tell my father’s story of the gambler who one day hears about a race with only one horse in it, so he bet the rent money. Halfway around the track the horse jumped over the fence and ran away."

One of the greatest viruses of the modern man is looking at Instagram Stories. You will melt your brain looking at a barrage of outcomes—like vacations, parties, cars—with no visibility of the process that got them there.

Good piece on the downside of meditation. "The point of meditation was never merely to relax or just 'clear your mind' but to wholly rearrange one’s relationship to one’s thoughts. This might make sense for a Buddhist monk pursuing the great unbinding, but not for a random Brooklynite who just wants to be more productive at work." theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0…
