We are closely monitoring the Bryson Fire in Malibu. While the fire is burning outside of the City of Los Angeles, the LAFD is prepared to respond to any fire threat that could emerge and has predeployed resources across the San Fernando Valley, Santa Monica Mountains, Hollywood Hills, and West LA. The LAFD’s Red Flag Alert remains in effect. Vehicles illegally parked in posted locations within Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones will be towed. Please abide by these restrictions where there are posted signs – we need to keep these areas clear for first responders in case of an emergency. All Angelenos should sign up for emergency alerts at NotifyLA.org and LAFD notifications at lafd.org/alerts.

Long before our city was founded in 1781, Indigenous peoples lived on this land, cared for it, built communities, and raised families whose descendants are still here today. Their history is foundational to Los Angeles, but it is also marked by colonization, the seizure of their lands, violence, and generations of people fighting to preserve their cultures and traditions. On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the Kizh, Tongva, Tataviam, and Chumash Peoples and those who are connected to the ancestral lands, who have cared for these lands for generations and continue their stewardship today. We also recognize the Tribal communities who continue to shape our city and carry forward their cultures, traditions, and histories. Honoring Indigenous peoples means telling the truth about our past, listening to their voices, and working toward a future rooted in respect, healing, and reconciliation.

These allegations are deeply troubling. No one should be investigated or targeted simply for exercising their First Amendment rights. In Los Angeles, we will continue to stand up for the constitutional rights of Angelenos and protect their freedom to speak, protest, and make their voices heard. The peaceful exercise of free speech, assembly, and the sharing of legal know-your-rights information are foundational pillars of our democracy—not threats to be investigated or suppressed. Our communities thrive on mutual trust, civic engagement, and the unyielding protection of civil liberties. We remain committed to standing with Angelenos, ensuring that the voices of the people are never silenced by intimidation, and holding power accountable to the Constitution. latimes.com/politics/story/2…

We should not be in a position where we are questioning whether or not the President of the United States is threatening cities in his own country. Although late in Washington, D.C., I called Congressman Garcia, Ranking Member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, to investigate the dangerous threats the President has encouraged this week against Angelenos. We will always stand together. thehill.com/homenews/adminis…

The President of the United States suggested that a foreign government attack Los Angeles. His statements against our city are dangerous and could potentially compromise our safety.  The role of a president is to protect the country, not to actively threaten it and encourage attacks on American lives.  In the face of irresponsible threats, as Angelenos, we know how to stand together and protect our city.

I appreciate @CAgovernor signing this critical legislation that Assemblymember Mark González, Senator María Elena Durazo, and I worked on and got across the finish line to help the people of Boyle Heights and East L.A. These pieces of legislation ensure cold storage companies take responsibility for the impacts of their operations, provide critical protections for residents in the event of an emergency, and allow cities and counties to impose higher fines when the health and safety of communities are threatened. I will continue doing everything in my authority to connect residents to critical assistance and to demand the answers and accountability this community deserves. latimes.com/california/story…

Let's be clear about what's happening: the Trump Administration is trying to create confusion and discourage people from exercising their right to vote. It's undemocratic and un-American.  Generations of Americans have marched, organized, and lost their lives to secure the right to vote. Throughout our history, when that right has been challenged, Americans have answered by fighting for it.  We are lucky in California that every registered voter will be mailed a ballot during the first week of October, and they don't have to leave their home to return it. Every ballot can be handed to your letter carrier at the door – no postage is necessary – at any ballot drop box, or at any Vote Center in L.A. County. latimes.com/politics/story/2…

Yom Kippur is a time for humility, reflection, and repentance. It is also a day of hope. Through our prayers and actions, we can strengthen our relationships with one another and move closer to the values we share. May this sacred day remind us of our common humanity and our responsibility to one another. To Angelenos observing Yom Kippur, I wish you a meaningful fast and a year of peace, healing, and hope. G’mar Chatimah Tovah.

This is an historic day for Hollywood. I want to thank Governor Newsom for continuing to be a champion of LA's entertainment industry and joining us in our work to ensure that Los Angeles remains the entertainment capital of the world. I have spent my career fighting for the entertainment industry, including as Speaker of the State Assembly where I oversaw the passage of the inaugural Film and TV Tax Credit Program. For too long, hardworking Angelenos suffered from inaction from City Hall and Sacramento to protect our local entertainment jobs. These jobs do more than pay the bills — they put food on the table for families, support local businesses, and train our future creative workforce. I’m proud we’re setting a new direction by working alongside industry leaders to cut filming fees locally, expand State-level incentives, and work aggressively to bring protections back to Los Angeles. I will always fight for our unparalleled creative workforce and to ensure that Los Angeles remains the home of Hollywood. These two bills not only strengthen the State’s current Film and TV tax credit, which we fought to double to a historic $750 million, but also create a new incentive to protect and support the thousands of post-production workers across our state and city. I want to thank Senator Ben Allen, Assemblymember Rick Zbur, and Assemblymember Nick Schultz for championing these pieces of legislation and working with my office to ensure these bills became law. variety.com/2026/film/news/g…

Los Angeles has been tested by this administration time and time again, and we have stood strong. A federal judge has once again sided with Los Angeles and taken action to severely limit when federal immigration agents can make warrantless arrests in Southern California. For more than a year, families across our city have lived with the fear that a trip to work, a walk down the street, or a goodbye in the morning could end with a loved one being taken away. Today’s ruling is an important protection against the warrantless arrests that have racially targeted Angelenos and terrorized communities. I want to thank the Los Angeles Worker Center Network, the United Farm Workers, the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, and the brave Angelenos who originally filed this lawsuit, which the City of Los Angeles joined, leading a coalition of more than 20 local governments across Southern California. The Constitution applies in Los Angeles, just as it does everywhere in America. We will always stand with our immigrant communities and defend their rights. latimes.com/california/story…

This is a tragic night for Los Angeles. My thoughts are with those impacted by the bus collision and the helicopter crash, and with the entire NBC4 family who lost members of their team while they were doing their jobs. I’m deeply grateful to our firefighters, paramedics, and police officers who responded immediately to two incredibly difficult scenes to save lives and render aid. The NTSB will be leading the investigation. Right now, our focus is on the victims, their families and loved ones, and supporting everyone impacted by these tragedies.
