Last month, from September 21st - 25th , Tanzania had the honor of hosting the Dar es Salaam Lightning Developer Bootcamp a historic 5 day intensive training organized by @FreeRoutingAf (AFR) and proudly assisted by the @BitcoinSafariTZ Community .
This was not just another workshop. It was a deep dive journey from zero to building on Bitcoin's Lightning Network.
What Happened During the 5 Days?
For 5 intensive days, developers from across Tanzania and Africa gathered in Dar es Salaam to learn, build, and connect.
Day 1-2: The Fundamentals: We started from scratch understanding Bitcoin, how the Lightning Network works, why instant low fee payments matter for Africa, and setting up the development environment.
Day 3-4: Building Phase: Participants moved to practical sessions working with open source tools, LDK, building wallets, understanding routing, liquidity management, and building real Lightning applications.
Day 5: Showcase & Networking: Final projects, group discussions, challenges African developers face, and how we can build solutions for our own problems using Lightning.
It was full of learning, hands-on coding, networking, debates, and pure Bitcoin energy.
