This page always gets defensive when you call out their hype. "Some meteorologists are saying this isn't as high as a hurricane. However, back in 2022 Hurricane Nicole caused 2-4 feet of storm surge across the state."
Using a 75 mph Hurricane to justify you putting "Hurricane-Like Storm Surge" and then incorrectly confusing 6 ft MSL with 6 ft of surge is ridiculous.
What about the hundreds of tropical storms that have produced 2 - 4 feet of storm surge? Why not use them as an example? Hurricanes historically produce much higher surge than 2 - 4 feet and you know that. You picked a lower-end hurricane for one reason only...to hype because it has the word hurricane attached to it.
Like I previously mentioned, we are going to have coastal flooding. No doubt about it. Reaching moderate to potentially even major category levels. You can convey the coastal flooding threat, just leave out the unnecessary exaggeration and hype for the public. That's all I'm saying.
🌊HISTORIC KING TIDE?🌊
UPDATE: Unfortunately, models have come out even more bullish, with a blend now showing the highest king tide IN RECORDED HISTORY (Since ~1898, keep in mind sea level rise) across nearly the entirety of the east coast of #Florida this weekend/early next week.
Some places, like near Jacksonville, could see it rise more than a foot above the record. Even though storm surge values could reach 3 feet, some meteorologists are saying this isn't as high as a hurricane. However, back in 2022 Hurricane Nicole caused 2-4 feet of storm surge across the state. If you live in the east coast, don't be fooled, this will be severe!
Please make sure you take this seriously, and if you live in a flood-prone area along the coast, get ready to begin preparations if you haven't already! Coastal Flood Advisories are already in effect, and they could get upgraded to warnings.
If you live on the Atlantic coast, we'll do our best to keep you updated! If you live on the Gulf coast, you have nothing to worry about!

Update...it's not just Canada 🤦♂️ As a cost-cutting measure, @NWS has removed ALL international observations (outside of US buoys) from its site. A shame that such a simple and helpful tool had to be removed due to the Trump administration's anti-science budget cuts.
Donald Trump is so petty that his administration has removed Canadian observations from the @NWS map.
This is what happens when the president has an ego of a toddler. Anyone care to explain how this is helpful at all? I’ll wait…

“In late spring 2020, a source I knew to be reliable called me with a story,” writes Matthew Cole. “The Dutch government had hacked into Jared Kushner’s phone and monitored him as he accessed a Dubai-based bank account. What was odd, the source said, was that the money in the account—hundreds of millions of dollars—had come from a bank in Azerbaijan. Most importantly, Kushner appeared to have transferred significant amounts of money from the Dubai account to other individuals, including a warlord, a mercenary and a one-time hit man. The story sounded preposterous, I told my source. And yet.
Six months later, I found myself speaking with someone else about the UAE government and their use of mercenaries in conflicts around the Middle East and Africa when I asked, on a whim, whether they knew anything about Kushner and bank transfers from a UAE account. My acquaintance grew quiet. Then they replied, ‘Yes.’” Kushner’s lawyer denied the bank account existed.

BREAKING: Big 5 men’s basketball schools to move forward with round-robin format without Villanova in 2027-28, from @Jeff_Neiburg in @phillysport
With the current format nearing the end of its contract, Villanova was not interested in keeping with the status quo. The one-day Big 5 Classic tripleheader could still live on.

I went to Ohio to write about Vivek Ramaswamy’s struggle with rural Ohio voters… and then he put out the ad featuring Amy Acton’s estranged mother.
To many of the state & national Republicans I’ve been talking to, it’s an act of desperation.

New this week: FEMA has denied a request for federal aid to individuals needing help after the July 2026 floods in Texas.
The decision comes as the Trump administration has shifted expectations to states to play a bigger role in disaster recovery.

“I think a lot of times you get in a situation where you might not make the right decision. I think people learn from their mistakes. He’s extremely remorseful. I do believe he is a good person. I’ve been around him quite a bit. I believe in second chances.”

For @testudotimes, @JudeWilkenfeld and I were outside Jones-Hill House trying to get players to comment. An athletics staffer took pictures of us, and a police dispatch was called for suspicious activity; a cop and 2 cop cars pulled up, and officers ID’d us and asked us to leave.
No one ever learns. People should be screaming at elected officials to prioritize these things and take weather threats seriously.
New: Three people died in Ruidoso on July 8, 2025, after dangerous floods swept through the New Mexico town. Despite the tragedy, first responders say the village’s leadership continues to prioritize tourism at the expense of public safety. propub.li/4sjEzfh

Very on brand.
The Trump administration’s cuts to weather satellites will set the country back nearly a decade, experts say. The loss of data used to observe, forecast and research extreme weather could prevent the US from making major advances in weather prediction in the coming years. cnn.it/4k6eD4o
