This time last year, I said that if we stood together, we would be able to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Revolution in a free, democratic and truly independent Hungary.
On 12 April, Hungarians came together, and we took our country back.
The Central Chief Prosecution Office of Investigation has taken György Matolcsy, former Governor of the Hungarian National Bank and a former minister in @PM_ViktorOrban's government, into custody.
People are arriving from all over the world for the parliamentary commemorative session marking the 1956 Revolution. Meanwhile, not a single opposition MP is taking part in the commemoration.
Shameful and disgraceful.
They do not deserve to be elected representatives.
13 days that shook the world.
On 23 October, Hungary and the world commemorate the courage and sacrifice of the heroes of the 1956 Revolution.
On the 70th anniversary of one of the defining moments in Hungarian history, I will deliver a commemorative speech as Prime Minister on Kossuth Square in Budapest.
Today, I welcomed the President of Israel, @Isaac_Herzog, to Budapest.
We agreed that it is in everyone’s interest to further strengthen the close historical, cultural, economic and defence cooperation between Israel and Hungary.
I was pleased to accept the President’s invitation to visit Israel.
Tax cuts, wage and pension increases, a doubling of child benefit, a stable budget, falling public debt, an economic growth boosted by EU funds, housing and energy-efficiency programmes, water retention, and better transport.
After 19 years, we will double child benefit. Families with one child will receive an extra 146,400 forints a year, those with two children 319,200 forints, those with three children 576,000 forints, and those with four children 768,000 forints.
The TISZA government will cut personal income tax for 2.5 million people from 2027. The income tax rate for minimum-wage earners will fall to 9%. Minimum wage earners will take home an extra 20,000 forints a month.
Today at 1 PM, I will deliver my most important speech in Parliament to date. I will present the budget for fairness and development.
Together, we will begin rebuilding Hungary.
I usually sit alone on the Parliament’s Danube terrace in the minutes before my address to Parliament.
Next Monday, I will do the same before delivering what may be my most important speech to date: presenting Hungary’s 2027 budget.
The budget for fairness and economic growth will be about rebuilding our country. Instead of serving the interests of those who benefited from the Orbán system, oligarchs, multinationals and lobbyists, the TISZA government will devote more resources to those who have suffered the most in recent years, as well as to families, Hungarian businesses, pensioners, education and healthcare.
The 2027 budget will cut the cost of running the state and redirect funds from billionaires and polluting companies to the millions who have been left behind.
We will do this while stabilising the budget, which Orbán and his circle have wrecked, and — thanks to thousands of billions of forints in EU funding — launching investment on an unprecedented scale in housing, transport and water management.
Join us on Monday at 1 PM, when I will present the foundations on which we will build a functioning and humane Hungary in the years to come.
TISZA made it clear before the election that we would maintain strict border controls and migration policy. The difference is that we do not sell residency bonds, and we do not release people smugglers from prison.
Today, Viktor Orbán spoke laughingly about armed rebellion and changing the constitutional order by force. This is one of the most serious crimes against the state.
Under Section 254(1) of the Hungarian Criminal Code, anyone who commits an act directly aimed at changing Hungary’s constitutional order by force or by threatening to use force is punishable by five to twenty years in prison or life imprisonment.
Under Section 254(2), anyone who makes preparations to change the constitutional order by force is punishable by one to five years in prison.
Shocking videos and images are coming out of France. Historic buildings have been destroyed, hundreds of police officers have been injured, and enormous material damage has been caused amid the escalating vandalism and violence of recent days.
In the face of this senseless destruction and unjustified violence, perhaps it is now clear to everyone why Hungary advocates the strictest possible approach to migration, and why we will not weaken our border protection or immigration policy under any pressure.
I am glad that the current EU summit has made it clear that the overwhelming majority of European countries have woken up and want to break with the permissive policies of the past. We hope it is not too late.
Let there be no doubt: peaceful and lawful protest is one thing; vandalism and violence are quite another. The former is a fundamental right; the latter is a serious crime.
The Europe we all love is in serious trouble today. It is our responsibility, too, to help preserve our continent as the most wonderful place in the world for our children and grandchildren.
Europe can count on Hungary.
I express my full solidarity with the French people.
