Why are we endorsing Kamala Harris? She has run an impressive campaign and seems to appreciate the need for centrist politics in America today. But, more importantly, a second Trump term comes with unacceptable risks. We explain why she gets our vote econ.st/48vkFUw

Presidents do not have to be saints, and we hope that a second term for Donald Trump would avoid disaster. But he poses an unacceptable risk to America and the world. If The Economist had a vote, we would cast it for Kamala Harris econ.st/3NKsH2r

This is the ad that triggered Trump operative Charlie Kirk. It would be a real shame if it went viral

In almost every election, Republicans appear to take an early lead. It's called the Red Mirage. Then that lead gets smaller throughout the night. That's called the Blue Shift. This is why Trump prematurely declared victory in 2020. Be prepared for him to do it again.

At what amount are you making so much money from your investments that you can’t reasonably spend it on what you would consider a reasonable life? Not a “I have money to burn so let me throw it away on stupid stuff” amount of money. And you can answer that too.

A big generational change: When I raised venture capital, I viewed it as a do-or-die commitment to making them money, building something great or going down trying Fast forward to today, founders are happy to just quit having raised $2m, $20, $200m, $2000m in venture capital Is that better or worse? I don’t know But I think the ability to quit is akin to giving yourself an out. To not truly burning the bridges. I do believe burning the bridges at some point, at least after you have some customers, is the only way to go big
