At New York Climate Week, @billclerico sat down with Chris @sacca and @CaieKelley of @lowercarbon to talk about how they think about investing in a more extreme world, and why they think the future is built on abundance, not sacrifice. They make the case that resilience is about the things people already care about: affordable power, secure jobs, and the ability to live without fear. Watch the full episode now. 👇

.@willob of @ulyssesinc joins @sacca and me for a pint to discuss how subsea robotics is unlocking Earth’s last frontier. We talk about the physical constraints of operating 1,500 meters underwater, why seagrass holds 20% of the ocean’s carbon, how green tape hinders environmental restoration, and why hard tech startups are verticalising hardware manufacturing. (Plus, Will's interesting Guinness history facts.)

Amen to everything Ian said. Arbor is one of the most ridiculous technical teams in Lowercarbon’s entire portfolio, and when the dust settles they will be one of the defining energy companies of this era.
Is Arbor Energy the key to power AND water for data centers? They just cracked the code to supercritical CO2 turbines, which have been something of a holy grail in power generation, especially in Arbor's case, because: 1. Using sCO2 as a working fluid can achieve energy efficiency rivaling large combined cycle gas plants in a much smaller footprint––e.g. behind the meter at data centers. No one had pulled it off though because it requires engineering a system capable of withstanding immense pressure, temperature, speed, and corrosion. Until now! 2. Combining this with oxycombustion of natural gas (CH4) means the outputs are only CO2 (used, recycled, and/or sequestered) and water. Arbor's power modules will PRODUCE tons of water while powering data centers... a MILLION gallons per megawatt, to be exact. So not only will their 25MW Halcyon system power data centers, it can ELIMINATE their water burden and even produce surplus water for local communities! 3. The key components can be 3D PRINTED! You've surely heard of the bottleneck in gas turbines, which is primarily due to the way in which combined cycle turbine blades must be produced (single-crystal casting). I'm extremely proud that @cantos was Arbor's very first investor and has invested in every round since then. Watch this company!

Every legacy energy company wants you to believe you have two choices: cheap or good. It’s a false choice. This week, our customer AI started running entirely on GPUs we own. The same week, customers ranked us the #1 energy company. Those two facts are directly connected: - Fuse AI now resolves 80% of our customer conversations at 98% satisfaction. - The remaining 20% are answered by a human in < 1 minute with 97% satisfaction. - Operating margins increased by 2%. We take that margin and reinvest it directly into generation, storage, and the grid to accelerate energy abundance.

I spent 24 hours with the @RainmakerCorp crew at the end of Alaska's Kenai Peninsula this summer, chatting with moose hunters and flying drones that would later go on to produce 19 million gallons of freshwater in under 3 hours. As much as I enjoy staring at colossal dams in dumbstruck awe, it was far more inspirational to watch a handful of people confront drought without needing to block a river with concrete. I wrote about the experience, cloud-seeding, and the company's plan to double the flow of Colorado River in the link below.

Rainmaker has raised $100M to become the world’s best lab for weather modification and atmospheric science. Thank you @noavctech @upfrontvc @DCVC @lowercarbon @DreamVenturesVC and other visionary partners. We are aggressively hiring and scaling our research org to create a flywheel of atmospheric data collection, synthesis, understanding, and intervention. We will solve the weather and we will set the stage for the terraformation of Earth. More in my essay below.

There’s over 50 terawatt-hours of curtailed, inverter-clipped, and otherwise wasted solar power annually, just in the US. That’s a lot of juice to spill, but Will and Varun are on the case. Rune converts watts into bits and, turns out, it’s a good time to be selling GPU-hours.
We've raised $40M to turn stranded solar power into AI compute, no grid connection required. Meet RELIC, the drama-free data center, deployed in under 60 minutes and already live at a 200MW site in Texas. More from @adele_peters at @FastCompany.

We’re breaking injection records. 📈 In July, we topped our 2025 monthly record by 20%. Then in August, we more than doubled July’s new record. And we’re not done yet. More records are in sight before the year is out.

But we do need to act much faster than that if people still want to live where the beach is today. We have about 50 years or so to take action, which should be more than enough time for the space satellites to solve any heating problems. grok.com/share/bGVnYWN5_2e24…

We are launching Quilt Tools, a permanent home for partner-facing tooling featuring the most advanced remote diagnostics platform ever made for residential HVAC. I talk internally about Quilt’s 3 Superpowers and this launch today ties all 3 together beautifully: *Superpower 1, Physical AI*. Every Quilt system has 10x as many sensors and 500x more computing power than the closest competitor. That data, that only Quilt has, and the ability to do sophisticated computation on it like system performance prediction and thermal modelling, is what makes this possible. It’s how we predict precisely when a system is going to break or tell an installer that they accidentally crossed wires or that they oversized an install. And the data is bidirectional – not only can our partners remotely understand the system, they often can remotely *fix* it as well. You’ve seen this capability in our OTAs that increase system capacity. This launch greatly expands those capabilities. The result is faster installations, fewer callbacks, and more comfortable homes – which saves money for both homeowners and partners. *Superpower 2, Product*. Quilt is at its core a product company. We care a *lot* about great user-centric design, thoughtful execution, and quality. Quilt is staffed by people who have built some of the most used and loved software platforms in the world. We have taken all that experience to create a top tier enterprise software platform in a space that had never received this level of TLC. Wait, did I just say we are launching an enterprise SaaS platform in 2026?? Yes – because what makes it powerful and unique is our fleet of connected systems and the data it produces, which no amount of token spend can ever reproduce. Coding Agents have greatly *deepened* our ability to produce a great product with unique and defensible value here, not reduced it. *Superpower 3, Partner Network*. Our channel partners and distribution network are our third superpower. Through them we have thousands of people in the field selling and installing Quilt every day. These are many of the best home services companies in North America. They are the face of Quilt and we hold just as high of a bar for partner performance and success as we do for our homeowner experience and products. And that’s 100% the focus of this launch – give our *partners* superpowers. We only succeed when they succeed and we want to give them every possible advantage to delight customers, grow their business, and accelerate heat pump adoption. Big thanks to all our design partners who provided early feedback and are already using Quilt Tools in their daily work – this is for you. Hear from one of them, ARS Blueflame in Seattle, in my first reply below.
