A fire. A disappearance. A theatre that kept reinventing itself.
Before today’s @thegrandlondon, there was a Grand Opera House. It opened in 1880, burned down in 1900 & reopened a year later at 471 Richmond Street.
In 1919, owner Ambrose J. Small mysteriously disappeared...
By 1924, the Grand was entering a new era. Famous Players took over, and film became a bigger part of the theatre’s story.
Then London Little Theatre took ownership, live theatre returned to centre stage and a “Grand Old Lady” needed a little help... (2/3)
