Building On Monad ⨀
Joined May 2023
if you're seeing this, you're early. we're lendhub, and we're building a new way to do nft-backed loans on monad and megaeth. right now, if you want to borrow against your favorite digital asset, you usually have to hand it over. it goes into an escrow contract, out of your wallet, and out of sight. for the duration of that loan, your digital identity disappears. your pfp goes blank. you lose access to any token-gated communities or benefits your asset provided. it's not just a financial transaction, it's a social cost. you become invisible, and the utility you bought into vanishes while your loan runs its course. we think that's a fundamental misunderstanding of what an nft is. it's more than just a token you can trade. it's often your identity, your community pass, your membership card, or even an in-game asset with active utility. stripping that away during a loan transaction feels wrong. it forces a choice between liquidity and belonging, between financial flexibility and social presence. this "custody problem" is a core challenge for on-chain credit, and it's what we set out to solve. our approach is different. instead of asking borrowers to surrender custody of their nft to an escrow contract, lendhub uses a lockable-asset model. the asset itself stays in your wallet for the entire duration of the loan. you retain full visibility of your pfp, you keep your role in your communities, and you maintain access to every utility your nft was minted for. what changes is that only the transfer right is escrowed. the lender holds a lock that prevents the asset from being sold or transferred until the loan is repaid. think of it like this: your car stays in your garage, but the lender holds the key to the ignition and the title. you can still sit in it, show it off, and use its features, but you can't sell it or drive it away until the loan is clear. if you repay the loan, the lock releases automatically, and the transfer right returns to you. the asset was never away from you, never out of your view. if, however, a default occurs, the lender uses that lock to claim the asset directly from your wallet, without needing to interact with a complex vault or intermediary. this model offers significant advantages for both sides. borrowers keep their digital identity intact, their community access uninterrupted, and all the inherent utility of their asset. the loan becomes invisible socially, only the lender knows it exists. for lenders, the process is streamlined and less risky. they do not need to custody anything themselves, removing the smart-contract risk associated with managing large, diverse vaults of assets. they simply hold a lock and a claim, on-chain, a far simpler and more secure position. building this kind of protocol requires a robust foundation. that's why we're launching on monad and megaeth. monad's high-throughput evm with parallel execution, designed for active on-chain markets. megaeth gives us sub-second blocks and real-time ux on ethereum's l2 stack. together, they let us run nft lending at speeds and costs that simply were not possible on mainnet. we are early. we are still designing parts of this in the open. if you want to follow along, ask questions, or push back on parts of the design, we are listening. this is the part where the protocol gets shaped by the people who will use it.

that's the picture. lendhub is onchain lending where your collateral never leaves your wallet, the lender holds a lock instead of your asset, terms are clear and on-chain, and it all runs on chains fast and cheap enough for loans of any size. liquidity without giving up what you own. lessons and features, one at a time · we'll keep building these out. follow along · there's a lot more coming.

lending on lendhub looks different from custody lending. you don't take anyone's asset into a vault or manage custody of a hundred different things. you hold a claim and a lock · that's it. repay, you've earned your yield. default, the lock lets you claim the collateral on-chain. less surface area, less smart-contract risk, a cleaner position. earning yield without ever holding the thing you lent against.

your collateral and your capital sit on this code · so the code gets reviewed in the open. we treat security as a precondition, not an afterthought. the contracts are audited and the report is public before anything goes live. we'd rather move carefully and earn trust than ask you to trust us blind. slow is smooth, smooth is safe. that's how we ship.

everything that matters on lendhub happens on-chain. the loan, its terms, the lock, repayment, default · all of it is written into the contract and visible on the chain. nothing depends on a private database or a promise behind the scenes. you don't have to trust us · you can verify it. that's the standard onchain lending should be held to.

a principle we won't compromise · self-custody. your collateral stays in your wallet. your funds stay yours. the protocol never takes custody of your assets · it holds locks and enforces rules, nothing more. there's no platform that can freeze, lose, or misuse what's yours. non-custodial isn't a feature we bolted on · it's the foundation we built on.

here is why the chain choice isn't just a detail. imagine borrowing $100 and paying $50 in gas just to open the loan. it's pointless · the cost eats the loan. on expensive chains only large loans make sense, and everyone else is priced out. cheap, fast execution is what makes small, everyday loans viable. lending for everyone, not just whales · that only works on the right rails.
40
the second chain is megaeth, and it's there for one reason · speed. megaeth's real-time stack delivers around 10ms preconfirmations. nothing else in evm matches the 'instant' experience that tightly. when we say a loan settles the moment you ask, megaeth is what makes that feel true. monad anchors, megaeth accelerates. together they make instant lending real.
37
monad anchors lendhub. it's a high-throughput evm with parallel execution · many transactions process at once instead of queuing one behind another. so borrows, locks, repayments and claims don't choke each other when the market is busy. sub-second finality means actions confirm fast. the capacity to run a real, active credit market. next · the chain built for speed.

lendhub is built on two chains · monad and megaeth. that's deliberate. active lending needs throughput and it needs speed. one chain anchors the protocol with raw capacity, the other is chosen to make 'instant' literal. the next two posts break down each one and why it earned its place.
27
sometimes you don't want to wait for a lender to match your terms · you want liquidity now. that's what instant loans are for · a fast-path loan against your collateral, available on demand. no order to fill, no counterparty to find. you draw, the lock goes on, the funds are yours. when we say instant, we mean it · which is exactly why the chains underneath matter. that's next.

one term worth understanding · loan-to-value, or LTV. LTV is the size of your loan relative to the value of your collateral. put up something worth 100 and borrow 50, and that's a 50% LTV. lower LTV means more cushion before a loan is at risk · higher LTV means more liquidity but less room if value moves. it's the core dial in any collateralized loan. knowing your LTV is knowing your risk.

a loan is just a few clear terms · and on lendhub you see all of them before you commit. the amount you borrow. the duration you have to repay it. the interest rate, which is the cost of the loan. agree to those, put up your collateral, and the loan is live. no hidden mechanics, no moving targets. the terms are set when the loan opens and enforced by the contract until it closes.
1
27
lendhub runs a peer-to-peer loan market. borrowers and lenders meet directly and agree terms · amount, duration, rate. no opaque pool forcing one rate on everyone, no intermediary holding your capital in between. lenders choose exactly what they back and on what terms. borrowers see the real cost up front. a market priced by the people in it, settled on-chain.

and if a loan isn't repaid? that's the one transfer the lock allows. on default, the lender uses their lock to move the collateral to themselves · on-chain, automatically, exactly as written when the loan opened. no custodian deciding, no off-chain seizure, no surprise. default is just the other branch of a rule both sides agreed to up front. predictable for the borrower, enforceable for the lender.

repayment is the happy path, and we made it clean. when you repay, the lock releases automatically · full transferability returns in the same transaction. no waiting on a counterparty to act, no manual unlock, no support ticket. the moment your debt clears, your asset is fully yours to move again. the asset never left. now the lock is gone too.
2
51
what stops you selling the asset the second you've drawn the loan? the lock. while the loan runs you can't sell, send, or move the collateral · every transfer is blocked except one. the single transfer the lock permits goes to the lender, and only on default. the rules are fixed in the contract the moment the loan opens. both sides know the outcome before anything moves.
2
24
so if your asset never moves, how does the lender stay safe? a lock. while a loan is active the transfer right is locked, and the lender holds that lock · not your asset. they never custody anything. you keep what's yours, they hold a guarantee enforced by the contract. it's a smaller, cleaner position for everyone. next · what the lock actually allows.

our answer is simple · your collateral stays in your wallet. when you borrow on lendhub, we don't move your asset into a vault. instead, only its transfer right is escrowed, using the ILockable standard. the asset itself stays exactly where it belongs · with you. liquidity without surrendering ownership. that's the feature everything else is built around. next · how the lock actually works.

here is the problem with most onchain lending. to borrow against something you own, you usually have to hand it over · move it into a protocol's custody until you repay. for the length of the loan, it isn't really yours. you can't use it, rely on it, or do anything with it. you wanted liquidity. you ended up giving up the asset to get it. we think that trade is broken · and the rest of this series is how we fix it.

new series · we'll walk through exactly what we're building, one piece at a time. lendhub is an onchain lending protocol. borrow against what you already hold, or lend your capital and earn · directly, permissionlessly, with no middleman holding your funds. over the next posts we'll cover the lessons behind it and the features that make it work · the lock, the markets, the chains, and why we built it this way. let's get into it.
