Hello #accessibility #a11y Twitter 👋🏻
Which resources would you recommend to a beginner in semantic HTML for a non-engineer?
Thanks! ❤️
I find writing user stories can be a bit fiddly, and they can take a bit of time to get right.
But, to do them right, we need to write them from the perspective of users who have access needs too.
Here's a great read on this from @TetraLogical

Name assistive technology that most people don’t classify as assistive technology.

Going to be quoting @Minette_78’s book ‘Leading content design’ for the next million years.
In the first chapter, Rachel talks about how every successful content team needs roles with focus on strategy, implementation and ops 💪🏻
Great read for anyone working in #Content

As news coverage of Roe v. Wade continues, it is important to remember that people who are not women do get pregnant and do get abortions.
With that in mind, here are some of our best practices. 🧵
How can this be pro-life when the lives of women (and people born with wombs) are not valued at all? We’re going to see more death, illness and child poverty in America. HOW is this 2022? Disgraceful. #AbortionBan
Why is it so difficult for teams to deliver accessible products and services? Personally, I've found it's down to lack of the right training and tools, which all comes down to leadership.

Bright, contrasting colours can be overwhelming for some autistic people. But, people with low vision or colour blindness might benefit from them.
A great example of how content can work well for one person, but not so well for the another.

Design systems should document relevant research around its components and patterns. It helps us understand decisions and work out where we need more testing to improve its flexibility and accessibility.
Great piece from @Amy_Hupe, @cjforms + @ignaciaorellana

I’ve written a blog post with @Amy_Hupe and @cjforms about why sharing research on patterns and components in design systems matters, and some tips on how to do it. medium.com/@ignaciaorellana/…
If you put a link in the middle of a sentence, it makes it harder to read. This is because the user has to stop to read text on either side of the link.
Put a link at the end of a sentence to make it easier to read.

Women's health is being given the attention it deserves, but separating 'menstrual leave' out in this way could lead to hiring bias. De-stigmatise taking sick leave for menstrual pain and conditions + make work more flexible for people with a range of hidden disabilities.

So how about this for an idea: instead of making “being born female” into a condition so unhealthy it needs legislation to defend us, we take another step in the realisation that workers are not robots – and simply destigmatise “taking time off”.

Happy Global Accessibility Awareness Day!
The top 5 WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) failures from this year are actually pretty simple to fix.
I'm going to share these along with some links to help you on your way.
Let's get started.
#GAAD
What you can do to avoid and fix these 5 things:
- do regular accessibility audits
- build an accessible design system
- run mandatory accessibility training
- do user testing with diverse users
- run accessibility crits
Let's make the internet a more inclusive place♥️
Thanks to @webaim for the statistics in this thread. You can read more at webaim.org/projects/million/
