We believe the time is right for the Scottish Government to honour its commitment to hold a public consultation on the Lord Advocate's dual role.
"This issue is about constitutional, legal principles and the current system, not about the many committed lawyers who serve within it."

We are consulting on a change in how errors and discrepancies in PoA submissions are handled. We are proposing to reject and return PoAs with identified errors in the names of the granter or attorney. Feedback is invited by Friday 10 April 2026. See bit.ly/3Nu8dOH
We're saddened to see the destruction of a historic building in yesterday's fire on Union Street in Glasgow. Our thoughts are with all people and businesses impacted by the fire and its continuing aftermath.
We have been contacting our member law firms that have offices close to Glasgow Central Station to offer support.
A number of law firm offices in the vicinity are closed today, with many staff members working remotely. Please contact the firm directly if you have an in-person appointment with your solicitor planned this week and have patience as firms work to minimise the impact of this incident on their clients.
All train services to Central Station are currently suspended and there are traffic restrictions in place around the area affected by the fire, so please make sure to plan ahead before travelling into the city centre.
