Solana just made one of its biggest technical upgrades yet.
Alpenglow is now live on Mainnet.
The new consensus protocol is designed to bring transaction finality down from roughly 12.8 seconds to around 150 milliseconds.
That is not just a faster confirmation. Finality is the point where a transaction becomes irreversible, which matters for exchanges, payments and financial applications that need reliable settlement.
The upgrade replaces TowerBFT, the consensus protocol @solana has used since its launch in 2020.
The bigger shift? Onchain applications can move closer to real time experiences, with settlement that feels almost instant.
Solana is not just optimizing its existing infrastructure. It is changing what developers can build on top of it.
