Is it all mental at this point with John Mateer?
Brian Bosworth doesn’t think it’s that simple. He told The Rush:
“And that starts with the offensive line giving him a chance to breathe. And they’re not giving him a chance to breathe.”
Dusty Dvoracek was asked about OU’s quarterback situation — whether he’d start John Mateer and what he thinks of Whit Newbauer.
“I’m not saying this to get anybody overly excited, but the two practices I went to, I thought he threw the ball really well.”

OU fans, what do you think about Brent Venables confirming John Mateer is still the starting QB?
“John’s our starting quarterback.”
How does the OU coaching staff try and get John Mateer out his funk?
SEC Network analyst Gene Chizik laid out what needs to happen over the next several days.
“More than anything, they’ve got to approach this pragmatically…You do nothing but study cut ups.”

25 years ago today: Lee Corso chose WRONG.
With College GameDay in Norman, Corso picked No. 11 Kansas State to beat the Sooners.
Instead, No. 3 OU survived a wild one, 38-37, getting touchdowns from both the defense and special teams.
How do you want OU to handle the QB situation during the bye week?
1. Mateer is the starter. Period.
2. Get Newbauer ready to start.
3. Open it up for a QB competition.
4. Other — tell us below.
Bob Stoops laid out the issues he’s seeing with the OU offense. And it starts with turnovers.
“I feel for John, I just don’t think you can play that position without confidence. And unfortunately…when so many bad things have happened it’s hard to have that confidence.”
2 years ago today: The first SEC win for the Sooners.
Trailing 21-10 in the 4th quarter, OU came all the way back against Auburn for an incredible road win at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
The Kip-6 gave the Sooners the lead with four minutes left and OU won 27-21.
Incredibly frustrating Saturday? Obviously.
But we’d like to give a tip of the cap to the OU defense.
Put in an incredibly tough spot, and they still fought like crazy all game. A lot of toughness and a lot of pride. 🫡
