Derby is a great city with a proud railway heritage. So pleased to be there today to confirm Becketwell as the new home of Great British Railways and launch our new Rail Foundation Apprenticeship Scheme, giving 600 young people a chance to help shape the future of our railway.

These GDP figures are welcome news.
Despite conflicts in the Middle East and Europe hitting people across the world, today’s figures offer more proof of Britain’s resilience in the face of these global shocks.
GDP grew 0.7% in the three months to August 2026, following revised growth of 0.5% in the three months to July.
Services grew (+0.9%) while production (-0.2%) and construction (-1.0%) both fell.

The most important thing for children is having a loving home - and having more brilliant foster carers could transform the lives of some of our most vulnerable young people.
Every seat in this stadium represents a child who could benefit from the stability of a loving home.
We’re launching a national campaign to help create 10,000 new foster places and give more children the chance to thrive.

Conflict in the Middle East and Europe is hitting people around the world, but the UK economy is showing strong resilience.
This week I’ll meet finance ministers in Bangkok to discuss how we limit the impact on people and businesses, provide some breathing space and drive growth
NEW:
From Bangkok, IMF World Economic Outlook released…
- Upgrades UK growth this year by 0.3% to 1.3%, joint second highest in G7, defying the idea the UK would be hardest hit by Iran war… but inflation higher and growth trimmed next year
- UK “stands out” on deficit reduction, IMF Chief economist tells me, as its figures show a 3.9% point fall in deficit from 2025-2031, significantly more than other G7 nations, with 3 of them actually increasing their deficits over this time.
- IMF says UK should “stay course” on fiscal plans, Chancellor arrives tomorrow
- overall story of resilience in world economy, despite the clouds from the Gulf, as AI boosts US, Asia and UK to some degree… energy and trade proving flexible in dealing with shocks

I promised we'd make council tax fairer, and I’m getting on with the job.
Too many working people have seen council tax debt spiral before they had the chance to get help.
That's why we're introducing more time to pay, clearer warnings if you miss a payment and more support from councils.
Thanks to @MartinSLewis and @mmhpi for their tireless campaigning to make this change happen.

Russia has intensified its strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure over the weekend. This is an attack on Ukrainian civilians, plunging them into cold and darkness. The UK strongly supports President Trump's call today for a sustained energy ceasefire to start now. I discussed this with @zelenskyyUa yesterday: Ukraine is ready if Russia stops its attacks. This is the best route to get energy and fuel back into world markets.

Why is this a difficult question to answer ?
"Do you think that the state of Israel, as a safe home for Jews after the Holocaust and after the pogroms, has a right to exist?"
@bbcnickrobinson repeatedly asks Green Party leader Zack Polanski.

Awaab’s Law set legal deadlines for social housing landlords to fix dangerous damp and mould - and is already helping to drive up standards in the social housing sector.
We’re now moving to extend it to private landlords so that England’s 11 million private renters can get the same protections. Extending his law could more than double the number of homes covered by legal deadlines to fix dangerous hazards.

We’re on the cusp of launching a big new national recruitment campaign for fostering. More to follow soon!
We need thousands more foster carers to help look after vulnerable children, but too many people assume they aren’t the right fit to foster.
As we prepare to launch our national recruitment campaign, Minister for Children and Families @JoshMacAlister sat down with a foster carer, Ricardo Sinclair, to talk about what fostering can mean and to bust some of those myths.

Three years on from the October 7 attacks on Israel, we remember those who were senselessly killed by Hamas terrorists.
The impact of the attacks has been felt not just in Israel, but in Jewish communities across the world who still bear the burden of the tragic events that day.
In the years since, we have seen a disturbing rise in antisemitic behaviour in the UK.
A year ago we witnessed a horrifying terrorist attack on the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in Manchester, with further attacks against Jewish people and institutions since.
I want Britain’s Jewish community to hear this from me directly. We stand with you. Abuse and violence against you, in any form, will not be tolerated. Not on our streets, not online, not in our schools or universities.
That’s why we are funding protection for synagogues, schools and community buildings, and why we will come down hard on antisemitism wherever it is found - in classrooms, on campuses and in neighbourhoods.
At home, we are committed to protecting our citizens from vile hatred. Abroad, we continue to work towards a two-state solution, with Israelis and Palestinians living side by side in peace and security.
An attack on Jewish people in Britain is an attack on all of us. Antisemitism has no place in this country, and we will do everything we can to stamp it out.
Good to be out speaking to people in Ellesmere Port on a sunny Saturday alongside our mayoral candidate Dan Price

Andy Burnham's been talking about fixing social care in Britain for a long time.
Now, as Prime Minister, he’ll build a National Care Service, free at the point of use, to give older people the care they deserve.

ALT A split screen graphic with two screenshots of Andy Burnham giving speeches. In the top screenshot, a label says '2010'. Andy Burnham is captioned, as a quotation: "The way people have to pay for care today is as great an injustice as healthcare before the NHS". In the bottom screenshot, the label says '2026'. Andy's quote is: "You know of my long-held ambitions to reform social care. I vowed then to fight for something better."
