My book on the Bourbons is coming out next month! Some of the material that didn't make it in includes two families with Bourbon blood, the dukes of Sueca and the dukes of Riansares, both descended from young men who caught the royal eye! dukesandprinces.org/2026/09/…

The House of Windsor is descended from William the Conqueror, and from every family that has ruled England/Great Britain in the past. The claim that the current royal family has less royal blood than a family that only became earls during the reign of George III is utter nonsense. And the idea that Stuart blood will return to the royal family in the future is also absurd; the current king is literally a descendant of James VI and I (from the House of Stuart).
If you're curious about this rather odd debate over whether the Earl #Spencer has a better pedigree than the King, check out my article on this, linking them with the Churchills of Marlborough (then read other posts on the Saxe-Coburgs and Oldenburgs dukesandprinces.org/2020/11/…

After a recent visit to Książ Castle in Silesia, a post about its owners, the Princes of Pless, seems appropiate. It's a tale about 'black gold', a fascinating British-born princess named Daisy, and a sex scandal or two for extra spice dukesandprinces.org/2026/09/…

If anyone's wondering how the royal guests are related to King Harald, look no further! Here's a family tree showing all those connections. 🥲
Reposting an updated blog about the House of Oldenburg in honour of the funeral of Harald V today in Oslo. Interesting to remember how he spent his earliest childhood in Bethesda, Maryland. And how patrilineally, he and Charles III are of the same House: dukesandprinces.org/2020/12/…
Proofreading a new piece I've written about Liselotte, I'd forgotten this absolute gem of hers: "C'est le cul le mieux payé que l'on puisse trouver sur terre" (March 1719, writing about her son-in-law's mistress)!
Towering above the river Vltava, Bohemia's original dukes (before they were kings) built a fortress up on this rock, Vyšehrad. #dukesandprinces
