Many of the best stories (like the best speeches) last around 1,000 seconds 🎙️ MLK’s Dream Speech: 970s 🌕 JFK’s Moon speech: 1,065s 📖 Average time to read a Hemingway short story: 994s 🔴 Length of a TED talk: 1,080s. (3 x “acts” of around 6 mins) 🧠 Ideal length for a CXO pitch (based on their 15-16 minute attention span). via @jeremywaite #storytelling

This is a great way to start a work week. Knowing your own IKIGAI can change how you approach your work and life. Have you written yours? If not, do give the below post a read. @jeremywaite’s penamnahip is thoughtful and meticulous, as always. lnkd.in/gzGQv-pv

🤯 the best thing I found on the internet today are @jeremywaite's hand-illustrated 1-pagers on storytelling methods from: - Harry Potter - Pixar Studios - Studio Ghibli - Greek Orators

Building a COMMUNITY and just connecting with people are two entirely different things. A couple of thoughts from M. Scott Peck’s superb book “A Different Drum” in my newest one pager… issuu.com/jeremycw/docs/the_…

Have you ever wondered how systemic change occurs? How progress actually happens? This week I've been studying accelerated behaviour change and how technology (historically) has made the world work better. Scientists call it 'SMUBA' - the 5 stages of systemic change. 💚🌍

I’ve been obsessing over Anthony Bourdain this week to understand how he told “stories that matter”. 🍜 “I don’t have to agree with you to like or respect you”. 🍱 (Not a bad philosophy for Twitter either).

Disney Imagineering has provided the creative energy that has driven Disney since 1952. Combining IMAGINation + enginEERING they “create experiences that entertain, inform and inspire people through the power of unparalleled storytelling". I’ve been studying their process.. 🏰

In 2006 Sir Ken Robinson ❤️ delivered the most popular @TEDTalks of all-time. I've always wanted to understand WHY it was so good so I tried to figure it out. There are many reasons why (he loved Aristotle) but I like to think that it because he didn't use PowerPoint.

In business we talk a lot about finding your “why”. I think we should be helping each other to discover our IKIGAI instead 🇯🇵 ⛩

People who love cars take them to pieces to see how they work. I like taking stories to pieces to see why they work. This week I've been deconstructing my favourite movie to take a closer look at what made it so great. "Words and ideas can change the world..." ✏️🌍

We often talk about empathy at work, but sometimes what we actually need is "TACTICAL EMPATHY". I've been learning about it from @VossNegotiation and his excellent coaching on @MasterClass. I highly recommend his book "Never Split The Difference" if you haven't read it yet. ⚖️

Speechwriter Vinay Reddy did an excellent job this week with @JoeBiden’s inauguration. Apparently he analysed Churchill’s speeches looking for examples of “rhetoric for good” to unite a nation with “so much more than words”. This is my analysis of his outstanding effort. 🌈🇺🇸

On a day for the history books, @TheAmandaGorman delivered a poem that more than met the moment. Young people like her are proof that "there is always light, if only we're brave enough to see it; if only we're brave enough to be it."
