Panel Q for politics sickos: What movie most resembles how Ohio's 2027 budget will go? Stewart: Planes, Trains and Automobiles (not Mad Max Fury Road) Chavez: Rocky Sweeney: Gladiator (she didn't know he dies in the end) Glassburn: The Usual Suspects

Obviously no one asked me to be on any panel. That said, my answer: Pan’s Labyrinth

Some interesting comments on the gas tax holiday in a panel of state lawmakers at the Ohio Chamber of Commerce event. Republican Sen. Brian Chavez doubts it worked as intended. "I don't have confidence that the gas stations honored the tax relief. It's really hard to police."

House Finance Chairman Brian Stewart (R) just made a pretty similar prediction at a panel event. In other words, interest in phone-based casino style gambling in Ohio is bicameral and bipartisan, to at least some extent
Interesting prediction from Ohio state Sen. Bill DeMora (D-Columbus): "Next year, I think, expansion of gambling, one way or another, is going to happen."

I found Sean Menon again a moment ago. When I let him know the race had been called for Acton, he shook his head. “I feel like shit,” he said. He hates the thought of Acton as governor. Ohio just elected “a stupid person” he told me.
If you're curious about the vibes at Vivek Ramaswamy's watch party:

Ohio governor race subplot: While Libertarian candidate Don Kissick didn't end up being a spoiler in the race (Acton defeated Ramaswamy by more than Kissick's total), he did win 3.3% of the vote -- securing minor party status for the Libertarians.

With 112 Cuyahoga County (Dems 70-30, roughly) precincts remaining, two Democrats are poised to win seats on the Ohio Supreme Court. Shifts from 6-1 to 5-2. Dems have lost most all races by 10-12 points since GOPs changed state laws to add partisan labels to SupCo ballots

Vivek Ramaswamy concedes. “It is a tough night for us here in Ohio.” He said he left Acton a voicemail and wished her well. “It was a tough race. It was bitter, at times, in both directions.”

Acton’s victory over Ramaswamy makes her the state’s first woman to be elected governor. It also sets up something Ohioans rarely experienced: a rival party with a major lever of power inside a state government.  signalohio.org/amy-acton-win…

***on the Kaptur race -- Lucas County for some reason has NOT been counted yet, which is the big population center there. So I would disregard that one
