Excellent profile of @gadi_eisenkot in @TheEconomist this morning by @AnshelPfeffer The first Israeli leader for a long time who isn’t just a wanna-Bibi but is something altogether different and perhaps might have the winning edge.

There is the Middle East war we discuss out here, and there is what happens inside the room.
@brett_mcgurk's new book takes us inside the actual room, where it all looks rather different.
I interviewed him for @thetimes

Today marks three years since October 7th 2023 - the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust.
On that day, Hamas terrorists unleashed a wave of barbaric violence, murdering more than 1,200 innocent men, women and children, and taking 251 people hostage.
We remember all those murdered.
May their memory be a blessing.
As @metpoliceuk ask protest leaders if they would please postpone their 7 October hatefest on the streets of London, here is my report of what happened last year

Although it feels like I am shouting into the void about this sometimes, I want to share some thoughts on the “Zionism is Racism” motion which the Green Party is due to debate in the next 10 hours, to address various points which I think people in general should know.

Thoroughly recommend reading this outstanding book by @scmallaby about @demishassabis AI and Google DeepMind. Brilliantly written, makes the science accessible and takes you on the wild journey from the early days of DeepMind to the frantic and frightening race to LLMs and AGIs.

Israel’s parliamentary election to be held in 107 days on October 27. Against all odds Netanyahu’s government has lasted an entire term.
Totally normal gift for the Turkish President to give to fellow NATO leaders.
“Erdoğan, NATO liderlerine tabanca hediye etti”
Financial Times muhabiri Lucy Fisher:
“Erdoğan, NATO Zirvesi’ne katılan liderlerin her birine, isimlerine özel işlenmiş tabancalar ve bunlara ait gerçek mermiler hediye etti.
Türk Cumhurbaşkanı, her silah için ihracat belgelerini de hazırlattı. Tabancaların üzerinde ise hediye edilen liderlerin isimleri yazıyordu.
İngiltere Başbakanı Keir Starmer, kendisine hediye edilen silahı ülkesine götürmedi. Çünkü bunu Birleşik Krallık’a sokmak yasal değil. Bu nedenle tabancayı Türkiye’de bıraktı.”

Worth reading this if you have seen the BBC report about the ‘UN Commission’ findings published today
Replying to @ElliotMalin @UN
Full rebuttal below. In one of many absurd examples, they assert that elite Shayetet 13 IDF commandos were sent to a single apartment in Gaza for literally no other operational reason than to kill children. That's actually an example. unwatch.org/un-watch-legal-r…

A number of SpAds will lose their jobs today.
One minute, you are among the busiest and best-informed people in Britain.
The next, your phone stops ringing.
You will even become grateful for a call about PPI.
I’ve spoken to more than 200 current and former SpAds. Here is my honest advice on what comes next 🧵 /1
6 simple reasons Starmer failed 🧵 1) He’s boring and a terrible speaker. So even if he had a vision and good ideas and could make good decisions he wasn’t able to explain the above or get people interested enough to even listen to him. /1
5) he never really won over the party he led. He won after Corbyn by promising a load of leftie stuff he then u turned on to become electable. /4
