thought Nolan was being curiously linear going along with Homer’s non-linear book, but now I am convinced he adapted his own chiastic structure with the X (aka the turn, the temporal pincer) as the trip to Hades and receiving three messages/prophecies from the shades
I also interpreted it as Helen scarring herself because she is done with men’s nonsense/out of her own grief. and in a classic Nolan twist we all get to become the Joker and make up our own facial scar backstories to argue about
nolan finally wrote some interesting women (thank u anne hathaway for horny furious cunning penelope) but at what cost (perilously low levels of his usual homoerotic subtext in a film about the greeks of all places)
