We’d never send a horse out to race dehydrated and unfed. Somehow we’ve accepted it for the people riding them. @hisa_us & @keeneland’s first-of-its-kind racetrack nutrition program is working to change that 🥙
Did you know HISA has specific rules for horseshoes?
The correct horseshoe matters and our rules cover the heights of horseshoe traction devices, like toe grabs, on different track surfaces. These rules keep the welfare of the horse first and foremost.

For Javier Castellano (@jjcjockey), horse racing is a family business. The Hall of Fame jockey has won 6,000 career races, including four Triple Crown wins.
In addition to his riding resume, he helps jockeys off the track as co-chair of @JockeysGuild.

When a horse is ready to retire, it's important for the owner or trainer to follow the right steps to move them to the next phase of their career. Since HISA and @jockeyclub are independent, it's important you notify both organizations of a horse's retirement.

Have you heard about the Void Claim Rule?
Horses can be claimed through claiming races when potential owners enter a draw to buy horses. While claiming usually goes smoothly, sometimes claims are voided due to, among other things, injury, death or an adverse analytical finding.

ALT A flyer titled "Void Claim Rule" features information on conditions under which a horse claim can be voided or not voided, based on veterinary findings. It also includes specific scenarios, such as post-race findings, that allow for claim voiding. The flyer provides a website for more information.
We all have a role to play in horse safety. We recently hosted a webinar on what owners and trainers can do to protect their horses from exercise-associated sudden death. Watch the replay here 👉 bit.ly/4rKXRK0.

With the help of researchers like Dr. Cris Navas of @pennvet's New Bolton Center, we're working to significantly reduce exercise-associated sudden death in racehorses. As technology improves, sudden death becomes more preventable.

A Covered Horse doesn't have to be entered in a race to be tested. Out-of-Competition Testing allows HIWU to conduct testing beyond race day as part of its nationwide efforts to protect the integrity of the sport and promote fair competition.

Have you listened to your horse's #heart today? 🩺
A quick listen to your horse's heartbeat can provide important clues about their health and help alert you to signs of distress, possibly including #AtrialFibrillation. Dr. Cristobal Navas de Solis explains.
📣 In observance of Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Awareness Month, the @hisa_us is rolling out the third installment of its 'Don't Miss a Beat' webinar series for owners and trainers on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
