My older brother has been a roofer his entire life, not great with PCs/tech but not dumb at all, bit of a young boomer. I hadn't caught up with him in a while and over the quiet winter months he had:
- Figured out Claude Code (he calls Claude "him", "he's working on it atm" etc., I still find that funny).
- Prompted Claude over weeks to build a v feature dense mobile game so he'd stop playing MU (he was top globally but wanted to stop, he's autistic for sure). It's rough, but it's genuinely good if you're into the genre.
- Realised he could use it for work, so went on to build an app that'll, from an address, pull satslite images and generate (accurate) proposals (materials costs, labour, and even models + drawings via some API, which is mad) for commerical solar installations, w/ forecasts on performance/returns.
- He's now got a database of all commerical units in his county, that don't have solar, w cost + potential performance so he can figure out who to approach first.
I know this is an edge case, I agree this app is a bubble and people generally aren't doing this, I more just wanted share the story. But if you met my brother and understood what kind of geeza he is (lad), you'd really appreciate how much AI is helping people do, even just novel/fun things, that they'd never have been able to otherwise, and it is really cool. Attached a video of his AAA game.
The "art for art's sake" argument would be fine if:
a) Hideo Kojima's taste was actually any good, and;
b) The shitty pop/cinema references that were cramed into 5 made the game better for it (they didn't).
Imagine turning one of the biggest game series in the world into a platform for you to fellate yourself, instead of just letting the people who made the games good, make a good game (with an ending). Rant over.
Stumbling on foreign edit accounts has been very cool - no idea what they're saying but you can really just feel it all.
