A Yellow Jacket is making history today! The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG) voted today to name Thomas A. Fanning, IM 79, MS IM 80, HON PhD 13, USG’s next chancellor. He’s the first Georgia Tech grad to serve in the role.

A Georgia Tech Alumni Association travel group donated $6,240 to a local primary school in Zimbabwe to purchase 17 tablets. The school has 1,302 pupils that must sit in two sessions to accommodate them all.

Fanning is set to succeed Chancellor Sonny Perdue, who announced his retirement in April after four decades of public service, and will take the helm of one of the nation’s top public university systems with 25 public colleges and universities, more than 50,000 faculty and staff and more than 382,000 students statewide.
BOR has named Thomas A. Fanning as the sole finalist for USG chancellor. Fanning, a Georgia Tech alumnus and the former president and CEO of Southern Company, brings more than four decades of leadership experience to the role.
